You're right. Hiring Brosnan was a horrible decision. After all that drama, the women's team is almost exactly where they were last year (team time is almost identical from Dellinger last year) and the men that ran last year and this year ran almost exactly the same. It's like he had zero impact.
That was a lot of headache for nothing. Seems like Anderson or whoever they have coaching can do just as good of a job.

You're confused. Last year at this time Brosnan had only been the UCLA coach for a little over a month, so he obviously couldn't have helped the team improve in such a short period of time.
And the recruits he was able to get didn't arrive at UCLA until after the cross country season. Had Brosnan still been the UCLA coach right now, they would be significantly better than last year. But Brosnan getting fired caused his recruits to leave UCLA.
In any case, the AD at UCLA probably doesn't care one way or the other if their cross country team is good or not.

Brosnan had more all Americans at UCLA in one year on the distance side, then past coaches saw in their entire time at UCLA. Brosnan got top recruits and they all split or didn't end up coming when the admin screwed things up again. I am not familiar with Lindsey Cornwell, but I'm familiar with Gavin Crew and he is a big reason UCLA XC / Track is awful year after year.

Funny reading that rumor at the bottom of the page about Brosnan using the transfer portal like free agency, and then just a few weeks later after he is let go, CO Football is massively praised for going out there and using the transfer portal like free agency.
"Some of the current team members felt threatened by these transfers and went to the administration to complain." lmao
The vin Lanana led attack against Sean Brosnan was one of the weakest cases ever brought to the NCAA. It went nowhere but the damage Vin caused multiple programs will continue to be a sad chapter in this sport. UCLA caved and blew it. Dion Sanders is basically telling kids go into the portal and I’ll recruit you.

There will be no Deion Sanders slander on this post. Brosnan was bending the rules and got some blue blood coaches riled up. He managed to piss over Virgina, Duke and Alabama and none of those coaches go quietly.
they don't care. to them it's just a sport to work title 9 numbers
sad
As a former Bruin, this is a really sad reality. When I was there Braden gave us a respectable squad that could sometimes qualify for nationals. Brosnan's hiring gave me some hope that there might be an attempt at ambition and building something that could be special. However, it's become abundantly clear that no one cares. Only reason to watch the Bruins now is once track rolls around to watch Catherine Leger <3

The only rule that was broken was Vin Lananna and his staff wetting their pants because their top athlete didn’t want to stay. Vin was walking around all winter and spring creating false rumors about Brosnan. Most top coaches lost respect for Vin years ago. He has classic small man’s complex. His actions were embarrassing it was hard to watch.
The facts are no NCAA rules were broken by Brosnan. All coaches can look these up. They zero violations between the NCAA , UCLA and Brosnan.
Brosnan is a SOB and a heck of a coach, he will get something sooner then later. UCLA was cowardly for bending at the knee because they had false complaints. UCLA seems to have serious upper management problems in athletics. This has been talked about for years in the college running world. I coach on the east coast and have heard the nightmare of UCLA from 2500 miles.
Vin Lananna should have walked away from the sport when Oregon fired him. Or Should I say “when he decided to leave on his own”
To every university it’s just to get the sport in and check off the box. If you think otherwise you are crazy. Administrators do not care about track/XC and why should they? It has become a niche sport in the last 30+ years and coaches have done nothing to make it more entertaining.

yeah right
What do you mean you can look it up? There isn’t a running list of all ncaa violations (minor and major) - a lot of these things are settled internally and never published. From my understanding, the investigation with Brosnan is still ongoing. Anyone who knows anything about the ncaa knows these investigations can take a year plus
Vin has people in the NCAA he knows. It’s an inside job. A counter investigation against the NCAA is going on based on conflict of interest with vin and those he knows. This counter suit going to be very interesting.
He got his boss ticked off and got fired. He is home watching high school meets on runnerspace. He is a middle age unemployed man.
This is exactly right. All this bluster about what he was going to do is typical Brosnan talk. He's a middle aged dude who's drama way outweighs his value as proven by his firing.
He was a nobody before he met the Youngs and Sahlmans and he's now a nobody again. Those families gave him his 5 years of fame and I hope he's grateful towards them.

The Sahlman’s
the Young’s
the McDonnell’s
the Aschbrenner’s
the Appleford’s
the list goes on and on
girls and boys national records, more distance all American’s at UCLA in one year they the program has seen distance get in a long time
