Track season is over. We have already watched and enjoyed the WC. Prefontaine Classic this year feels like the Pro Bowl after already enjoying a great Super Bowl.

It would help if they named it after someone who actually succeeded as a world elite, like Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson or Florence Griffith Joyner.
If it has to be some local hero, there's still plenty better: Mary Slaney, Joaquim Cruz, Nick Symmonds.
No that wouldn’t help and it has NOTHING to do with the OP’s point.
It has everything to do with it. DL Eugene isn't an important meet, or it would be able to schedule itself at a more important point in the season.
For the USA to name its flagship meet after Prefontaine is like if Kenya named its flagship meet after Edward Cheserek. A guy who totally dominated the NCAA, then flopped as a pro and disappeared.
I am expecting 4 world records to be in jeopardy or at least feasable. Supposed to be pretty warm but not unbearable. Hopefully, the schedule is early enough to avoid the late afternoon heat and the wind is down.
Smoke is pretty bad so i wouldnt be surprised if they just call the while thing off.
this is why the sport struggles so much. Even so called fans of the sport can't be bothered to get excited for the important events. It's less than a month out from Worlds and the world's best are still fit and ready to chase records. Why wouldn't you be excited?
Couldn't care less where it's being held as i'm going to watch on tv regardless.

I like that Nguse is speaking confidently after his last 2 races and rightfully so.. JI admits that he or anyone else will have to run fast to win even if its not a WR attempt.

Please describe how Pre “flopped as a pro.” Your ignorance is showing.
I am convinced that many of the posters here have never run competitively in their life. Never felt the passion. Never gone balls out to the wind. I leave you this quote, which was on the cover of my running diary a million years ago.
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.” ― Theodore Roosevelt, Strenuous Life
