“I know I will break the marathon world record, but that may not happen during the Chicago race, because I started late training and my body is not yet at it’s best form,” said Kiptum.

Baseless doping accusations aside, Kiptum’s confidence is striking--crystallized in a way similar to J. Ingebrigtsen. Scant mention of or concern with competitors and winning seems to be understood implicitly.

What the hell does "i started training late" mean? You are a professional athlete, do you really start training late? This man doesn't have personality. He won't have a long career as Kipchoge actually had.

What? You really can't imagine what he means? Maybe he was ill and started his training block later than he wanted to. Maybe he had a light injury which kept him from tougher efforts? And what does any one of that have to do with his personality?

Kipchoge’s career has lasted 20 years and counting. You can predict that any young runner won’t have as long a career as his, and you’ll be right about 99.9% of the time.

But i was mainly talking about marathon. I doubt he has the mentality to stay at the top for 10 or more years as Kipchoge did. Of course he won't have a 20 years overall career simply because he is not a track and field runner.

There is nothing "baseless" about Kenyan marathon doping. They've had Olympic champions and world record-holders busted.

I don't usually get on the EPO/juiced bandwagon but this guy, come on. No track credentials, early 20's, already runs 2 marathons in 2:01. This is pretty obvious.
Kipchoge is the GOAT, but his WR will only last 5 years, and already almost got erased by a washed up undertrained Bekele.
Maybe history will remember Kipchoge as just the best during a weak period for the thon, as one of the first greats to figure out the proper transition from track speed to marathon speed, but just another great rather than a GOAT.
Prior to London, Kiptum is quoted at the press conference as saying “I'm not ready to go for a world record now.” He goes on to run within 16 seconds of it. Is it even debatable as to the all time status of what he did the 2nd half of that race?! Zero percent chance the WR lasts for 5 years.
