Pacers seem to be akbache, kiprugut, and maybe Mcsweyn?
I think McSweyn needs points for the DL final, so I bet it will just be Akbache and Kiprugut and that should get Jakob to 1,000 or maybe 1,200. The 2,000 distance could hurt Kipsang, Laros and Giles (800/1500 guys) while playing to the strength of Reynold Cheruiyot, Almgren, Nordas and McSweyn.
Some strange decisions by meet organizers for this one result in what could be a B- meet:
- They have a women's 100, 200, 400 and 400h? -They put the men's 400 and women's 5,000 last, despite having the worst fields (and devoid of star power) in the meet - Maybe I'm not giving Hudson-Smith proper due or the event just stinks at the moment -Does seem like they lost a good chunk of star power/medalists late (Knighton, B. Chebet, Welteji, Taye, Q. Hall), but they also advertised some far-fetched ideas (Yavi running a 5K? Ebenyo running a 2K? Chebet running in China and this one?)
Just saw there's a non-DL 10K and that's where Ebenyo is. Pretty good field too, so props to Brussels for having it: -Bashir Abdi, -Ebenyo -Gressier -Kibet -Kipkorir -Kipkirui -Mburu
If Woody hadn't crapped the bed last time out and Klecker wasn't hurt, this would be a good time to try to knock out the Olympic standard. Fisher I wonder about too, but maybe the turnaround and this is too soon for a 10,000.

Erlend Slokvik, head of the national team, has said to NRK today that Jakob is «probably not going for the record, just to win the race». But I think his knowledge of that is limited.

Cornelius Tuwei must be a pacer as well. An 800 specialist, he’s never raced longer than 1500, his only 1500 this season was a 3:40 for 11th at Kip Keino back in May, and he just paced the 1500 in Berlin yesterday.

Laros ran 13:23 at 5000 in May. He is an allrounder. Though, you forgot Carcia Romo.

That’s a great field. Gressier looks poised for a great time. Abdi using it as marathon buildup?
Any idea why Kincaid dnf in Zurich? The programming where I am at was cut away.

You realize every guy I cited has run 13:05 or faster, many in limited tries. Saying he ran 13:23 is like saying "a 3:30 runner runs 1:46 he is an all-rounder." It'd be surprising if anyone running 3:30 is much slower than 13:20 with a few extreme examples (like Giles).
It's lame if they keep it a 2,000 if Jakob is NOT going for the record. Just make it a 1500 instead of a bogus distance for the Diamond points IMO.

There is a heatwave in Western Europe these days, it will be a bit too hot to get really good times in the 10 000m.
Seeing the forecast is 84 degrees and 70 dewpoint. If they break 27:00 that'd be pretty good for those conditions. But I'd be surprised if anyone gets the qualifier given how miserable those conditions are.

100% agree with your first paragraph, completely disagree with your second as long as they still aim to run FAST. But I don’t think of 2000m as a bogus distance like you do; I’m weirdly into off-distances and wish they were contested more often.
