Just curious what affordable brands (or specific items) are recommended for endurance training. I’m running on a treadmill now and will begin road running as weather warms up. Also what materials would be recommended for shirts, shorts and socks. Socks are key as my feet do sweat quite a bit. Also where can I find the best resources to learn more about the sport? Sites, forums, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc.

I can't stress enough the importance of the right shoes before you start putting any mileage on your legs. Two things people should never go the cheap route with - mattresses and running shoes. Brand will depend on your feet and running style, but I've never gone wrong with Brooks, Topo or my current favorite, the Hoka Clifton 9s. Go to a real running store that can evaluate your gait and has a solid selection of shoes. Try then out on the treadmill, walk around a lot, see how they feel, and then make a judicious decision. Trust me - as someone who just bought the latest sales brand when I was on a tight budget, I paid the painful price for years with too many injuries that killed my love of the sport. I haven't had a serious running injury since I started focusing on my shoes.
