My High School senior son is going through his second bout of IT band issues. He had it about 1 1/2 years ago and after a lot of physical therapy it went away. During the PT he also switched from his Brooks Ghost to some Saucony Guide 15's. The PT said it looked like he was pronating. He lands on the inside of his heel and it looked like he would collapse in. He has been running in the Guide since then but the IT band issue has come up again unfortunately. We are back in PT and it has gotten better. In looking at his shoes what looks strange to me is that you can see that he still lands on the inside of his heel, but when he gets to the forefoot there is much more wear on the outside edge. It almost looks like he is starting as a pronator but then supinating as he moves through the foot strike and comes off his toes. I am wondering if the post in the guide is actually over correcting him. I know the IT band issue is mostly an issue with increasing his glute strength to help stabalize the knee, but could these shoes be contributing to it? I have considered having him try the Ride 16 instead of the Guide to see if it helps. Any thoughts? The PT was ok with us trying them but I was just curious if anyone had any experience.
