Looks like UCLA has hired Delaney Ramussen as an assistant to coach to help Avery with the remains of the distance program? For those most knowledgeable, what's your take? Is this all stop gap? How did it get here? Where does it go?

My guess is they will be fine. They have resolved a troubling situation and now they can move on. Ucla is a school people want to attend... not all people but enough of them... so they will be just fine.
Wait, when someone mentioned Rasmussen as the potential UCLA coach on a different thread a few days ago, I honestly thought it was a joke. Not because I have anything against Delaney or have heard anything bad about her, but just because she's so young, with I think a single year of experience. Wow.
Well, it's nice to see young women starting careers in coaching, and if she's learned from Mike Smith she could end up being a very prudent choice. Still, this whole UCLA situation has been a trip.

They will be fine as a subpar / average team you are correct. Back to business as usual for UCLA cross country and Track & Field
she's a former NAU runner. I just read about her joining Sacramento State XC team as an assistant. a nice little bump for her in pay going to UCLA. good for her.
I heard from someone close to the team that they’re hiring an assistant coach, which I assume is Delaney, and a main coach. Heard the main one had coached world championship finalists and been in the ncaa before. Possibly international. I guess we’ll find out, probably gonna need a few more runners though to make it a team to feature though

That’s just what Coach Avery Anderson told the athletes. He was hoping they wouldn’t leave when Brosnan was gone. It didn’t work and they still left.
Maybe now the focus will be on the athletes and not the ego of the coach
The focus seemed to be on getting the team to being a national contender with Brosnan. This is what actual good coaches do.
And your right, now they can put the focus on 17min 5k woman, 15min 5k men in order to get their as@ kicked again and again..
congrats to UCLA for having no value in success or winning.
Brosnan’s focus was getting the team to being a national contender? Is that what the recruits on the men’s side indicated? That may have been the worst recruiting class in the last decade at UCLA. Looks to me like Brosnan was the one who didn’t value success or winning.

Yes check the coaches thread - the other hire is Michelle Freeman for sprints and hurdles.
Delaney has been hired and is exceptional. This gives Avery options. He can hire another coach and split the squads and Delaney can handle one side or he hires a more experienced coach and that person oversees both sides with a talented assistant.
But everyone will be critical of the hires because Brosnan Bros can’t imagine anyone else but him being successful.

Men’s recruits Freshman : 8:57 -3200m 9:04- 3200m 3:46 - Freshman Transfers : 1:46 - 800m 10k - 28:31 ( decided not to come as Brosnan didn’t get renewed)
That’s a good men’s class. They lost Staggs and a great 10k guy since Brosnan didn’t get renewed. They still have some talent to work with though. And the women we don’t need to mention times and names as it was more public for everyone to see. They lost the entire top 5 women who transferred.

That’s insulting to Brosnan. He cared about the athletes and continued to coach the athletes after being fired per the athletes request and them having no coach. I think you got things wrong. He only stopped helping them once this assistant was hired. Not exactly the actions on someone who didn’t want them to succeed.

This was a sold men’s recruiting class
Add a 9:17 and a 9:24 and yeah, that’s a horrible men’s recruiting class for a team that has their sights set on being a national contender. If you think that’s a good class, you just don’t know what the good team’s classes look like.

I think we found someone who has brain damage. Your posts are actually comical

So replace UCLA with any of the top programs like Stanford, UNC, NAU, Virginia and on and on. Those are teams contending for championships. If any of those teams had this class, EVERYONE would say that’s a bad class. You really don’t know what kind of recruits contending teams get, do you?
