If anything this proves Jakob's point: it's not easy to win from the front...like Jakob has at every DL 1500m this year.
Kerr ran a bold race from the front, and I was rooting for him to win to solidify his WC title, but I think this confirms a healthy Jakob beats Kerr. Jakob would have won this race.

Probably, but the objective is to win however you can. Doesn’t help Kerr that the pacers stunk in this one. Made winning from the front even harder.

Jakob’s point? Aren’t you forgetting the LRC submitted question asking how Jakob would win in a non-DL championship type race without a pacesetter, and Jakob replied, “Waddaya talking about? I’m the pacesetter!”
It wasn’t Jakob’s point. Jakob was initially passing it off, per his answer to the question, that it would not be that big of deal for him.
You're right. The way Nuguse went about this race was sneaky and underhanded. And as you mention, lucky. What fortune for him to end up just behind the leader in the final straight of a race, swept by the winds of chance!
Before passing Kerr, (which in my opinion he should not have done in any case--show some respect to the world champion!), he should have cleared his throat and said loudly and clearly "On your left!" It's basic etiquette.

No, I'm not forgetting that question or his answer. It's not easy to win from the front even as World Champion...see Kerr today. Jakob is able to do it because he is that much better than everyone else. I believe that was his point.
Based on the results of every other DL 1,500m this year, if you replace Kerr with Jakob and he runs the exact same way Kerr did (which is reasonable considering how Jakob tends to run) I think a healthy Jakob wins comfortably by .5-1+ seconds.
Kerr did not run a smart tactical race prioritizing a win. Instead, he ran boldly from the front to prove a point - that he is the best in the world - similar to how Jakob ran the '22 WC 5,000m. Anyone else (beside Jakob) likely would have been eaten up with 100m to go, but Kerr dug deep and almost held on for the win. Had he run a more conservative race I think he would have had a better chance at holding off a late charge from Nuguse, but he wanted to make a point. That was an incredible race by Kerr, but I still believe that Jakob was not wrong to say that Kerr was just the "next guy" on the day of the WC final.
I'm not sure if you're being serious, but this was just a totally different race from the world championship final. Nuguse made tons of mistakes in that race. This race was less crowded and Kerr did all the work. It was also way less physical and contested mid-pack. Played to Nuguse's strengths, whereas the championship final did not.
Yes, the championship race was much more physical and tactical. Nuguse got dumped at the back after 100 meters. He never runs back there. Then he spent too much time running outside or weaving through runners and didn't have his customary run to the finish. He runs best when he gets out hard and runs - even in the second lane - near the front and then has a late push/kick. He was a little lucky to sneak by in the inside today but a really good win against the best in the world... except for he who shall not be named.. Two DL wins in his first pro season! BTW, Yared, if you read these boards... Notre Dame's first cross country race is tomorrow at Valparaiso if you have any eligibility left!

Yes Jakob won several races being babysitted( pacer)until just past halfway and finished those races racing the baby monitor (wavelight)
To be fair, neither pacer even making it to 900m is embarrassing. I think the worst Jakob had this season was getting 900-950 in pacing.
I believe ingebrigtsen took the lead at 500m in Budapest…so yes, now Kerr knows what it’s like.
What does this matter? Would Jakob have beaten Kerr in Budapest if he hadn't taken the lead?
Kerr is clearly the best miler in the world other than Jakob, and a threat to Jakob in a championship race whether Jakob is sick or not. Nguse pipping Kerr today is like Don Paige pipping Coe in a race post Moscow. Pretty meaningless really. This was the best Nguse against a Kerr who has probably been partying for a week, as well as giving a thousand interviews and the like. And he was lucky to win. Katir is clearly no longer a factor at 1500.

I don’t think Kerr was running from the front to prove a point either. I think he was going after the British record. Ramsden laid an egg and suddenly it went from great time trial setup to a very long run (850m+) from home. He nearly won anyway, but this was botched execution from the pacers and Kerr had to make the most of it.
