Great race by Jakob. I can honestly say he looked ill. Skin, much paler than normal and just looked lethargic...by Jakob standards. Still gutted it out for the win. Impressive af.
Congrats Jakob. I could be wrong, but if I had to guess, that was your hardest fought championship.
Luis looked best 2 laps to go; Abdi's face was in despair. I wish it was the bronze for Luis! Maybe will see him in Zurich this week? Clearly he's in a top shape.

Seriously I hope that hard earned Gold would make him like the distance better. I really want to see what he can do in the 3k-10k range, though I'm sure he would always prefer the 1500m.

The 3K isn’t a championship distance and we already know very well what he can do. Since the 5000m, including heats, is after the 1500m, I’m sure he already liked the distance.
Luis Grijalva again didn't put himself into a position to medal soon enough but he certainly has twice validated his 4th from last year with both the fast time this year and another fourth, but this one was particularly impressive in looking at the guys he beat, three Ethiopian runners who have run low 12:40s this year, Aregawi, 12:40, Gebrhiwet 12:42?, and in the 12:40s 11 years apart, and Kejelcha, a low to mid 12:40s guy.
I am very happy to see Jakob get redemption in the 5000m after the disappointing silver in the 1500m again. He was clearly ill for both finals but probably felt a bit better today. He was boxed until well into the bell lap and that put him in bad condition to catch Katir, who has stamped himself as a premier 5000m man.
My god. He is incredible! What a race! Absolute legend!
So glad to be alive watching this.
god??? I told the 3:35 plus 1500m runners what they had to do to prevail in today's 5000m race. Didn't I state the 3:35 plus 1500m runners had little likelihood of victory in a 13:05 plus 5000m race? Today was, I believe the 19th W.C. 5000m race. At least 5 have been run, sub-13:05. The last time the guys beat J I in a W C 5000m race, a 12:58.xx race. If Dr John Nash were alive, he would have a word or two to say about the guys in today's 5000m race.

I don’t think he looked sick at all. I think he’s radiating a bit of low energy and is stressed with all the kickback he got from his showboating (and losing) in the 1500m. His showboating attitude and denying Wightman last year, and Kerr this year credit after they beat him wasn’t a good look. It put a lot of people off. Also, the dad situation, getting Gjert denied his Norwegian coaching accreditation and then coming very close to losing to his dad’s athlete in the 1500m (the blue ribbon event he’s desperate to win). He’s definitely eating some humble pie and probably deserves it too quite frankly. Can’t be easy though for him right now. He pulled off the 5k though, so good on him. Still wasn’t an excellent championship for him PR-wise.

Good summary.. anybody buying the feeling under the weather excuse is a loon fanboy. This was a disappointment WC showing for the 1500 and he is accountable.
