YY ftw. Amane Beriso Shankule or another Ethiopian next. Anyone could grab the 3rd spot.
As I said elsewhere, it’s Beriso, Salpeter, Gotytom. I think JG playing down the Ethiopian results is just wrong.
What’s intriguing about this marathon is that it’s so hard to predict the results. This unpaced marathon in warm weather is so different from a paced, flat, cool weather race that some of the favorites will struggle and a 2:24 type might snag a medal. There will be some DNFs for sure.

Anyone want to take a stab at the winning time?
With a 2:20 over/under, I'll go under, barely. 2:19 high.

I’m cheating because the race has already started, but it’s gonna be much slower than that. 2:24-high is my guess.

Szabo, hometown favorite, looks good but realistically with a 228 Marathon PB has little chance of being in the top 10 at the end of the race. Japanese ladies typically like to show their worth in the early stages of distance races but also rarely figure out the end. Kaseda (Japan), has a 2:21:55 best, though, so could figure, in theory.
I like the chances of Wanjiru and Salpeter to go on the podium but of course nothing is set in stone. Nice to hear Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe commentating for this Marathon on BBC and also nice to hear that Steve Cram at age 60+ is still running for fitness and that is confirmed by his slim physique in contrast to Brendan Foster who has a much more portly physique these days. Sullivan, USA, looks good at front. Those supporters on the side of the race trying to keep up with the top ladies almost look like they’re sprinting to keep up. Pace looks to be around 530 per mile give or take.
