Instead of becoming the best middle-distance runner in U.S. history, Shelby Houlihan is losing the prime of her career to an offense she says she didn’t commit.
A terrible read. Poorly researched and extremely one-sided and biased. Doesn't matter, that cheat was caught and banned, fortunately, and remains banned.
Remember when a well paid activist antagonized a group of high schoolers and The Post ran a story with the students as agitators? The post got sued and lost big time while the Indian rode off never to be heard again? Now journalists have to use the word “alleged” for any incident even if it’s captured on video.
Yeah! F$&k the WaPo. I’m not reading their garbage.
Good article, very in depth. The details of how this impacted her life and the fact that she even rejected the new shoes has convinced me that she's telling the truth no matter how improbable.
It's fine to present Shelby's point of view and talk about how the suspension impacted her, but it's irresponsible to gloss over the preponderance of evidence that she was doping. Her burrito defense is wildly, wildly implausible.
Talking about trace amounts ("picograms") is a way to win over people with no frame of reference, and looking at the wapo it appears to be working. The concentrations found in Shelby's test were well above "trace" levels!
I was furious at the article still talking about the burrito after it came out it’s was simply a strategy from the lawyers and then finally, in the last paragraph she admits she doesn’t even know if the burrito happened. She just needed an excuse as to why she tested positive.
unreal. Glad she’s dealing with it and will be back but she flat out had nandrolone in her system. Any African with that and we crucify. Won’t make any exceptions for Shelby.
This was an article that did not need to be written. We've heard it all before. Sadly, I have no doubt that many of the Washington Post readers will fall for her side.
“She trains in isolation, coached remotely by her sister Shayla, a professional runner turned college coach.”…
how is this okay?? I know they are family, but still you now have a D1 university of Iowa coach, coaching a fellow distance runner who is still serving a doping ban??
Shelby was an outright and obvious cheater. When people strained to explain her progression by nonsense such as that she was "undertrained", it became a sad joke. Anyway, she gets her article.

I was gonna say this. How many Shelby’s side of the story pieces are we going to end up with? I wonder if the AIU will ever get fed up and plant suspicious RTP data if they have it.

Shelby is in Budapest according to the article. Maybe Rojo can find her and hand deliver an invite to the LRC meet up?
