Cheap vacation?? Did you not know its Hungary and not Honduras? Just checked and for 4 nights decent hotels were largely in the 700-800 range. Yeah, so cheap.
As someone who lives in Budapest, I don't trust that number. Early on the organizing body were virtually giving morning session tickets for free especially among primarily schoolers. Which is not a bad thing at all, but I'd be surprised if all taken seats will be actually occupied.
All for this. Morning sessions often look a bit sad, and I don't blame spectators for not wanting to pay. But for a lot of athletes, running in a WC heat at 9am in front of 200 people will be the biggest race of their life. Also, a lot of those kids/their families might go to a morning session, enjoy it, follow a few athletes, and then want to come and watch the finals session where they do pay

All seat are never occupied. For one of the days at Doha, I could not purchase a ticket in the stand close to the finish line. Yet on that very same day, it got filled by freebies given to Qataris, athletes and agents. I know this because earlier in the week there were agents and athletes around me who were talking about the free seats. They were told not to talk about it in public, but they clearly didn't listen. So on that day, I moved from my stand and went and sat in the stand close to the finish line anyhow.

Under $200/night for a decent hotel? Sounds pretty freaking cheap to me!
About 7 months ago i booked a 5* hotel to attend the games for $225 per night. The hotel now is sold out. I do recall that last month, that same room had increased in price to around $376 per night. I still would have booked it. At least it's a 5* hotel as opposed to the motels in Eugene.
