A top 25 all time 100m dash guy giving up T&F, not for N.F.L. but college football? Why can't he do both? I know Am. football college rosters are much smaller than 50 years ago. Football coaches will not let guys play football AND participate in T&F as much today. Today, a guy has to choose. Come spring football practice, M W will hate this decision.
Might go the Marvin Bracy route and come back to track after a couple years. He's had some injury issues so I'm sure he'd like a shot at being healthy.
Just showing up and sprinting fast does not make one a great football player. Unless you believe U of O will give the young man the Reggie Bush treatment, switching to football (bag of cash, luxury condo and a new expensive German auto), college football doesn't pay the rent.
Devon Allen is proof that you can secure 6 figure yearly salary if you simply run very fast and have some experience catching the ball.
He's only on a practice squad roster and yet his salary would be in the upper class of all track and field runners. Imagine if you are good enough to make a full roster, generational wealth instantly.
And if it doesn't work out and you can't get on an NFL roster for a year or two, you're still in your early 20's and can just resume track and field.

if uncle phil wants him to get a bag, he'll get a bag
his morphology has always screamed "football" to me. That, combined with his exceptional speed (and perhaps more importantly, his 'quickness') should hold him in good stead.
However.... while I'm sure he played football in HS, a top tier NFL player needs more than the simple physical attributes. They need to know and REALLY understand the intricacies of the game.
To dumb it down a little (a lot!), give him Emmitt Smith's brain and you have likely the greatest NFL RB of all time!
All jokes aside, the very best of luck to him, he's an exceptional talent
He didn't switch to football, he joined the football team this fall to see if he could become a viable wide receiver. He is still going to sprint for Oregon after the football season is over, just consider this a way for him to stay in shape and try something different for a little bit. This is no Devon Allen situation.
Williams hasn't played football since his freshman year in high school, when he was on the JV team. He's going to play zero role for Oregon Football this fall.

The coaches should be fired if he plays "zero role" for the football team this fall. With his speed, you absolutely have to put him in for a few snaps. Just do a reverse. Deep ball.
Even money, Ill bet you up to $5,000 right now that he plays for Oregon in football this fall.
We can start a thread. Put the money into a third party venmo account that someone else controls.
Oregon once ran a world record 4x1 using three of it;s football players Jerry Tarr****, Mike Gacther. Mel Remfro, on anchor Canadian legend to be Harry Jerome.
NWLa once won the NCAA 4x1 using footballers Victor Oatis, Joe Delaney, Mark Duper on anchor, Mario Johndon other cat.
Oregon had JJ Birden a 25-7 long jumper, Chiefs WR. Cowboys RB Amos Marsh a 9,5er an Oregon Duck. LaMichael James, Deanthony Thomas were Oregon sprinters, NFLers.
I look for Williams to be a bit of a disappointment at WR, cat is too short,
