I watched the race. Teare ran pretty smart and was in position to strike, but didn't gain any ground the last 200. Mills led after the pacer dropped off at 1,000 but pretty much just kept going with no extra gear, thus getting overtaken the last 100. Bibic on the other hand made a couple really strong surges including the finish and looked pretty fresh and fit. Looks like Teare/Mills peaked for their nationals and now might be a bit past their best. Luxury of not having to worry about Nationals (for Bibic.)
EDIT: Also Bibic is probably as much a miler as Teare. Both guys probably best suited for the 3k. Wonder if Bibic should consider the Steeple (has an El Bakkali-esque frame) same as Teare?
EDIT2: Disappointed in Prakel (who ran fine) for not trying to run up front at all. Never gonna PR big running with your tail between your legs.

Yeah Foppen has not improved much in the last year. Seems to be going backwards. I was surprised by Bibic as he was going the same trajectory and not looking his best so far this year.
don't like Prakel, never shows any balls in the 1500m. For a 3:50 miler he kinda sucks when they make the race 109 meters shorter. Don't talk to me about his high finishes at USA's against B-Level comp either. The guy is the poster child for complacency in American distance running.

Yeah, I don't quite explain why he wasn't running up there with Teare with a reasonable/steady pace being set. This is a B-level European 1500 and he was back in the pack with the C-teamers who were trying to kick to run 3:35 as opposed to contending for the win and possibly running 3:33 if you had a kick (which only Bibic did).

he was injured in june and just ran 13:05 (6s pb from indoors, 8s outdoor PB)
probably not doing as well in the 1500 because he lost a month of training. You lose aerobic fitness a lot slower than the speed required for the 1500, so makes sense his 5k is better this summer
Bibic is a 1500/3k guy, not sure where “definitely not a miler” is coming from.
Sort of odd to see Dominic Lobalu placing 6th in the 1500 in 3:35, as a 7:29/12:52/59:12 guy last year. Still a PB is a PB, and maybe it bodes well for better results in the next couple months.
At the same meet Neil Gourley ran 1:47.26 for 5th in the 800, over 2 seconds behind the winner. Very lackluster result, but I suppose he’s probably in the middle of his last big training block.
In the women’s 1k Abbey Caldwell took down Linden Hall, 2:34.63 to 2:35.12. Sophie O’Sullivan was 4th in 2:37.08. Caldwell, Hall and Hull make a formidable Australian 1500 squad.

Really? Did not Bibic run a 13:26 when 19? I think that points to a future 5000 guy
Lobalu is not really a speed guy and is just getting back into shape. He had to muster everything to beat Oli Hacker in a 7:38 3k. 3:35 I think is about where he is. He’d be happy to dip under 13 or 7:30 again in a few months.

No, he actually did not run 13:26 when he was 19. He ran 13:26 when he was 21 in 2020, the same year he ran 3:35.07 which is definitely a superior performance. Now at age 24 his PBs are 3:34.20 (1186 points), 7:39.45 (1180 points), and 13:24.42 (1122 points). He’s ranked 29th in the world at 1500 and 102nd at 5k. So he has some 5k potential, sure, but it’s weird to say he’s “definitely not a miler.”
My take away is that teare is 3:34 guy. Great time obviously but it is also what he was a couple years ago. He hasn't progressed.. now maybe things just haven't lined up for him training wise but he getting to be old enough that he is who he is. I was hoping in a couple of fast euro races he would be a 3:32/13:00 guys but it appears he is that one notch slower...

Your takeaway is that a guy who ran 3:32 this season is a 3:34 guy? Huh? Also these aren't exactly "fast Euro races", they are being won in 3:34.
That being said, Teare should hop in a steeple at some point. There is gonna be a slew of sub 3:30 guys missing the 1,500 final, and Teare is even a step below that. His teammate Jager also thought he was a 1,500/5,000 guy until he gave the steeple a shot and it ended pretty well for him.
