Yes! If Parker Valby can do it, why not Grant Fisher? I love that he’s at altitude too. Go Grant!
Never count out The Fish. I mean, like, never.
When do entries have to be submitted for Budapest?
Didn’t McGorty say on the running effect pod he really only wants to run the 5?
If he scratches, Grant is def in as long as he can run.
It would be like a 1-2 week turn around of ground running likely. However, if he goes for the race and does poorly/drops out, the only person he would be taking a spot from is Chelimo, who has a better shot in the 5 anyway, because no other Americans can qualify.
I kinda want him to go for it, partially because it’d be fun if he beat Joe or Woody, but I also want him to be healthy for Paris. It does seem like it’s only a reaction based on his turn around time. Typically femurs its 6 weeks no activity at all.
How would Grant run the 10 if he didn't run at USAs? Wouldn't the spot go to Klecker?
Nevermind ignore this I mixed up the 5 & 10

He shouldn’t run worlds - just get healthy vs jogging in a 10th place finish. Hope I’m wrong

He probably shouldn't, but I'd love to root for him. I think he will only run if he feels fit, not whether or not he feels healthy. If he's already cross training this much instead of resting it a bit I think he wants to try.
Guy got a stress reaction in his femur. That's pretty hard for a man in his mid 20s to do. Rather than cross training 2.5 hrs a day just to show up in Budapest having not trained properly for 6 weeks (in a year where he already wasn't as fit as he was last year) to get blown away by Cheptegei and Co. why not rest up, make sure that any nutritional or mechanical issues that caused the stressie have been fixed and go absolutely all in on getting back into 2022 G Fisher shape and show up in Paris ready to throw down with anyone and everyone.
Like really, he hasn't been firing on all cylinders even when healthy this year before he had to take time off. Why risk potentially reaggravating a femoral stress reaction and turning into a fracture one year out from an Olympics? What's a best case scenario, coming 6th?
I wonder if his Nike contract has a reduction clause for not coming top 10 at World champs or something.
I agree entirely. When I first heard about his injury, I posted on here that he should just shut down his season and get fit for Paris. Let's say he gets in shape to make the line in Budapest. What's the best he can hope to achieve? 10th maybe? He was already quite a way behind the best guys this year and with little training since USAs he's just going to be further behind. It's painful, but he needs to do what Oli Hoare has done and focus on his career long-term. There's champs in 2024 and 2025 and he should still be near his peak for both.

Not quite.
Sean said he was really looking forward to running the 5k at Worlds . . . then later stated he would "love" to do the 10k/5k double and believes the training he's been doing will prepare him well for both.
We'll find out in a few days, but speculation has been that a couple guys ahead of him will scratch the 10k and Sean will be in.
Back to Grant.
If he can continue to be pain-free as he is now and get back to dry land training sometime this month (August), no reason not to run the 3k or 5k (whatever is on the schedule) at the Pre Classic come mid-September. If he is over the injury and in somewhat decent shape by then, he may be contractually obligated to do so.

Exactly.
And, since it's been over 3 weeks since USAs, Grant & Jerry have had plenty of time to think everything through, so trying to race again this season is the choice they have made.
Only question remaining is . . . when?

stressie
never heard of him
I think they called it a stress "reaction". Usually means mild/caught it early. I do wonder where the tipping point is between rest so you can heal with some X training vs 2.5 hrs including elliptical delaying healing? Elliptical isnt nothing. I guess its all relative when you run 100MPW. Relative rest.

You are forgetting that this year, Pre is the DL final. That means that only the top 10 in DL points get to run at Pre. Since Fisher has no DL points this year, he's unlikely to end the season in the top 10.
Klecker, at 11th, is currently the highest ranked American. (WK is 16th.)
Should I say it? Oh, what the hell!
IT'S VALBYMANIA!!!!!

This is how these guys make money. Run in the WC if at all possible.
