I saw the headline on the front page her and thought to myself "How many people, at this point, really care what she has to say?" Then again, I guess if someone is giving her money to write it/publish it, then at least that person/company thinks a decent number of people will buy it/listen to it.
Had a lot of interesting chapters. From the college days at CU to becoming the highest paid female runner. The way she describes Alberto, as well as how she dives in to the unnatural progression of Mo and Galen was interesting to say the least. So all in all if you're a fan of the sport its definitely worth the read.
"How many people, at this point, really care what she has to say?"
Yeah man. Goucher brought to light some extremely unfortunate conduct that occurred within one of America's most prominent professional running programs. Alcohol abuse. Sexual misconduct. Body shaming. Doping. Broken promises by a sponsor to its athletes.
Hopefully open dialogue about this kind of stuff can make the sport better for its male and female professional athletes.
Also, the book debuted at something like #7 on the NYT Bestseller list, so at least a few people are interested in what Ms. Goucher has to say.
If these accusations are true, I wonder if she made an effort in advance to warn future female members of the club. I wouldn’t consciously allow for this to happen to others knowing what was done to me. She could have prevented the Mary Cain situation, possibly?
At this point it's not fair to Goucher to question her claims regarding Al Sal's conduct. He was found guilty in multiple venues, was suspended and ultimately banned from the sport. Al Sal literally had the best legal defense money could buy.
She just said that he acted inappropriately towards her when he was drinking, put her in uncomfortable situations, as well as on two occasions putting his fingers in her privates. Don't know where you're getting your side of the story but that was all that was in the book.
She also didn't say Galen "just got fast all of the sudden", she talks about how before Daegu, Alberto tried to get her to take something, which he had already been giving to Mo and Galen. She was further suspicious when they were able to hit back-to-back hard workouts and hard days, while it was inconcievable for her as she seemed to need much more rest than them.

Discus.
Can't wait to read it. I don't judge books by their cover, I actually read stuff.
No interest. She is not a good human. I have met her and been around her. Zero credibility. She’s just trying to stay relevant. Makes me want to vomit.
