Considering it for very gradually thinning crown hair as it seems like starting earlier is better. Have you had success with it? Any undesirable long-term side effects? Have you tried stopping use and if so, did the loss resume?
I've been on Finasteride since 2020. Absolutely no side effects at all. I'm 44 and still get great erections. And no, my penis did not shrink. Side effects are rare and the internet is full of horror stories from neurotic people. It take the pill three times a week. I spoke to two doctors about it - my primary care doctor and my dermatologist and both said the drug is safe. It is normally use to treat an enlarged prostate. Talk to your doctor if you have second thoughts.
I've been on and off Minoxidil.
I tried the pill version of Minoxidil and it messed with my heart after a week. My heart was racing and my chest felt tight. I switched to the foam and had no side effects.
It's important to take/use both finasteride and minoxidil if you want the best results in regrowing your hair. The foam Minoxidil does work and I have the photos to prove it, but you need to be very consistent with it.

Thanks, is there a reason to use foam than the oil? I read some reviews saying the oil is taken up more efficiently. Am nervous about finasteride and don’t think I need it yet, especially if topical minoxidil is effective.
The laser cap may help too (you use every other day), but it is expensive. I would talk to a hair doctor about all of this. They can get you prescription minoxidil and/for fin topical and cheap deal for laser light therapy. There is also PRP and other therapies
Also, your hair doctor may want you to try a rx ketoconazole
”Hair loss While ketoconazole is most frequently used for its antifungal properties to treat infections or conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, there is anecdotal evidence indicating that it may also help promote hair growth or reduce hair loss. One small pilot studyTrusted Source consisting of 15 people with alopecia, for example, found that ketoconazole may be able to improve hair regrowth” -
Ketoconazole shampoo works as a dandruff treatment and may control symptoms of other skin and scalp conditions. We’ll tell you how this antifungal shampoo may help to manage symptoms of psoriasis, the possible benefits for yo...
It seemed to work, but couldn’t keep up with the twice a day applications every single day forever.
The good news is you don’t need to do 2x/day. Hair doc has me do a prescription minox once a day apply to scalp before I go to bed (night only) and then rinse out with shampoo in the AM. Much easier since walking around the whole day with sticky foam sht in the head (I was using Costco minox foam before) sucks
Finasteride is far less risky to a runner than minox. In fact I would do fin, keto shampoo, retinol on temples/crown, and derma rolling before I would do minox again. The heart issues it can cause if you are absorbing to much topically, and the potential lowering of your (presumably as a runner) already low BP is a risk for death. Of course different people will absorb it at different rates so you might be ok on it. And if you have high BP take it!
Fin does seem to show a slightly increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer, but this could be because it greatly decreases your risk of the more common low grade cancers so you are less likely to have it removed. The sexual side effects are massively overblown. I gave myself ED for a month just because I read that ED was a potential side effect. It was all in my head lol. Sperm did get slightly more liquid though.
Any claims of penis "shrinkage" are probably from an 80 year old whose grapefruit sized prostate was pushing everything forward until it shrunk from the medicine.

Didnt realize the foam tends to be sticky all day. If you sleep with it though, do you have to worry about getting it on the pillow and therefrom on the face? I read online that it can cause unwanted hair growth in inadvertently applied areas.

No clue, I used the foam since it was offered as option. Works fine for me and drys really quickly. I run a comb through it once it's absorbed into the skin and I'm good to go.

Why did you get prescription as opposed to over the counter? Is there a difference?
