is this for the fall, or will she transfer for the spring? Do schools even still have spots available to accept students in late July? Or is this a case that she accepted admission a while ago and it just wasnt announced until now for some reason?
she'd get one free transfer like everyone with no sitting out. It's just a question of whether NC State can accept/add students at this point for fall semester. I have no idea to be honest.
As of Brooks PR at least, Florida State still thought she was coming (I remember seeing a comment from a coach there), so the change must've been pretty recent.
6 or 7th runner as is. Could be #5 if she has a great freshman year.
Certainly a loss for FSU.
Assuming this is true, it's good short term news and great long term news for the pack. Stephens would be the strongest xc recruit this yr, joining the battle at 5-7 or even redshirting.
More importantly, the post Tuohy era of team Rauber would now have Rauber, Hartman, Stephens, Napoleon, Putman, Quarzo, Hall and Michalak plus xfers and bench. No guaranteed title, but definitely a team to contend for a new era.
This switch is almost like a transfer, as Stephens really improved her value during outdoor, so she was able to move up the food chain.
I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, yes it's her college career, the only one she has. But Florida was saving a spot for her, now she's leaving them "high & dry" (well, not exactly. they have a ton of other recruits, but you know what I mean).
you don't really know what the situation is with a team until you get there are try it out. What if she tries out NC State and hates it? It's a bad look to have committed to FL and then drop them when "something better" comes along.
Nope. The rules require a 1 year commitment on your NLI. She will lose a year.
You are probably right, so that makes it the red shirt option and she comes in with Michalak.
Do watch the shenanigans here and see if this doesn't get twisted somehow; after all it's girls xc, not football.
Always ironic, if you don't want to sit out, you're better off xfering 15min after xc, as then you get xc at school 1 and indoor and outdoor already at school 2, with no sit out time.

My 2 cents.
it could just be as simple as realizing too late that she wants to be closer to home, or maybe something changed with a family situation to make her want to be closer to home. The hometown from her milesplit is 4 1/2 hours from Raleigh vs. 12 1/2 hours from Tallahassee. Thats a huge difference if you want to go home for a weekend.
Could/should she have figured that out sooner? Of course. But like i said we dont know the situation and if something changed to make her rethink how far away she was going to be.

I think technically Katelyn could run XC in 2024. 2020 was the covid year, and she ran 2021, 2022, and will run 2023.
