After making the WC team in 2019, Hiltz had a terrible Olympic Trials followed by a terrible nationals. When athletes leave a coach it's because they're not getting results.
My understanding is that group collectively had a rough go holding things together/organized during the pandemic 2020/2021 and that led to upheaval, departures, and at least one premature retirement.
Track is cut-throat. Nobody cares what you did last year if you are not performing *now*. Only the very very top runners can pay the bills using yesterday's performances so to speak. Nikki's running was suffering so they left.

That's not correct. You have it backwards. Nikki Hiltz left Terrence and his San Diego based Adidas sponsored training group many months before the 2021 Olympic Trials. Terrence didn't make Hiltz slower so she left. Hiltz left and then got slower.
At first, Hiltz stayed in San Diego but switched to being coached by Mac Fleet, and Hiltz got a lot slower. Then later she moved to Arizona, got a new coach and a new sponsor, and got faster again.
After all that moving and sponsor switching and coach switching, 4 years later Hiltz is only .1 faster in the 1500.

And multiple US titles.
But that's not because Hiltz is faster, it's because her competition isn't as good this year as it was in the past. Eli Purrier St Pierre got pregnant. Jenny Simpson no longer runs the 1500. Shelby Houlihan got busted.
It must be exhausting dealing with so many people going out of their way to be disrespectful and hateful all the time. How hard is it to have basic manners and respect people?
