WA has published a great profile on Mario Garcia Romo written by Emeterio Valiente. In it, he raves about the NCAA system, talks about what it's like to share a flat with one of your biggest rivals, reveals he's focused on winning Worlds and that the best is yet to come both this year and in the future as he's purposely never maxing out in training.
Garcia Romo said:
“Of course, I trained seriously but always with room for improvement. I would even say I’m not training at 100% right now. I believe it’s better to train not too hard and stay healthy; maybe that’s the reason I’ve only suffered one injury – a sacrum facture in 2019 – in 15 years of career.
“My motto is: OK, I’ve finished my workout, but I still could do at least one more rep...”
“The race in Rabat was tactical, and a 59-second 400m split in the middle told us that there was a lot of time to gain there. My training has also been a lot better this year, as I’ve been able to focus more on running since graduating from college.”
