Sha'Carri will probably decide to focus on just the 100, leaving a spot open for Abby Steiner.
Nope. The scheduling at championships is better. The rounds are across 3 days. The 100/200 double is very common. The best shot (a long one) Abby has going to Budapest is if she gets a relay invite. She has to run fast times in the DL meets though. This is her first pro circuit, it usually takes about the third to figure it out. She will be fine. I think she should either focus on the 200 or the 200/400.

Why does everyone say Abby should run the 400? What's her 400 PB? It doesn't even list it on Wikipedia. Gabby has run under 50 and no one says she should run the 400.

You’re right Abby has never actually ran an outdoor 400m that’s why she has no listed PR and yes we do get carried away by her fast splits in 4x4 relay which are different from an individual 400m. However, I think like Gabby she should run the 400m in DL, I think she will find success there too.
I have always said Gabby should do the 200/400 she already has a 49.68 SB in April! Imagine how fast she can run the 400 now with a new 21.60 SB. I am a fan of both.
Steiner will run the 4x4, so I dont see her dropping the 200 to just give her a spot.
She won't run the 4x400.
My guess is that while the WC is going on in Budapest she will have already had surgery and will be doing rehab. She won't compete again until indoor at the earliest.
The US women will have a really solid 4x400 team just with Syd, Gabby Thomas, Britton Wilson, Mu, and Talitha Diggs. I assume that Lynne Kirby-Jackson and Rosey Effiong will also be in the pool.
I doubt it, with such depth in the 400m this season, there are 6 women way better than Steiner. Steiner has never even ran a 400 outdoors ever and her 4x4 split times were last season we don’t know if she can run those times this year, she hasn’t shown us anything about her 400 form this season. Also last season when she was in a good form she was literally a last minute replacement for the 4x4.
Maybe the mixed relay since the top 400m women will want to have fresh legs for the 400m.

Wikipedia is not a good source.
You'll get better information on an athlete's palmares from World Athletics.
People have been saying that Steiner looks like she has not been enjoying herself this season and didn't seem to have the same "happy-go-lucky" demeanor that she seemed to have in the past. If the injury reports are accurate, perhaps now we know why.
No way SCR will drop the 200 at Worlds. The schedule at worlds is much more forgiving for doubling with a couple of days in between each event and heats/semis/finals all on separate days. SCR is a medal favorite in the 200 even with Gabby and Shericka running better times. SCR will be more competitive at Worlds with the easier schedule.
