The lack of racing 5ks really burned him, he hasn’t run enough races to have a 5k ranking. But that’s his best bet. There’s only one world ranking spot up for grabs in the 10k and he would need to run sub 27:10 to get the ranking which is doubtful. But if he can run a roughly 13:10 5k in the next couple weeks it might be enough to get in on ranking
WHAT A US CHAMPS! For the supposed #3 or #4 guy on BTC, McGorty stepped up and may yet go for both events, barring the standard!
Big picture regarding BTC, this USAs was pretty close to what we see every year.
Their athletes are so high profile that when a few of them don't make teams and/or DNS due to injuries, it feels like the team is having a bad meet.
Then, along come spectacular performances . . . this time by Cranny & McGorty . . . to remind everyone how good these athletes really are and what can be achieved under Jerry's training.

2/13 Americans on their roster (if you include Duncan Robinson) finished in the top 3 at US champs. Great runs by McGorty and Cranny, but it's underselling how good BTC has been in the past to say that this was pretty close to what we've seen from them in years prior. They had at least six individuals finishing in the top 3 at at least one event at every US champs from 2019 to 2022.

You need to race 3 5ks or 2 5ks and 1 3k/2 mile in the past 12 months to be eligible to get a world ranking. This means he needs to run 2 more races to even get a world ranking in the 5k, and they need to be fast enough to get him in on ranking. Not happening. His only bet to getting in the 5k is running the standard, which is probably a weaker standard than the 10k though.
