How many times has this happened over past few decades because I've seen it a few times?

(why do they overlap men/women races they are only 30 minute long, just start them 40 minutes apart?)

Because they would have to start whichever they sent off first even earlier or extend the day longer (and have a higher extreme heat risk, pay cops more, extend volunteer shifts, etc).
With the starts 10 minutes apart—and the use of splitscreen!—this coverage was pretty good overall. Bringing the sport to the masses is a big priority for the ATC, and they do it well.
Humidity actually went down further into the morning, temps slightly up but already started high

that is generally the way humidity works. it's relative. hotter air can hold more water, so if when it gets hotter, but the same amount of water is still in the air, relative humidity goes down.
Dew point is an easier indicator to follow.

I can't believe there are still runners who use RH% instead of dew point to call out how humid it is.

it's her own fault. she was less than 80 meters from the finish line. how could she not see the massive banner that said FINISH?

Absolutely, that's a factor. But more so, after following the same lead cycle for 6 miles it's only natural for her to follow it to the end. As soon as that lead bike made that turn it should have been sealed off by volunteers, cones,...whatever, to prevent this. This is Peachtree not some podunk 5K. A cry'in shame for Teferi.
She was looking at her watch every 5 sec or so the last 400? Why? You are in a 3 person race to the finish. 10th street is 6 lanes (closed) with a 80’ banner across the street that says finish. The race is 5.5 miles down Peachtree then a left on 10th (all barricaded off) and a .7 stretch to the finish.
what happened was she was so preoccupied at looking at her watch she finally looked up with 125M to go, saw the lead police motorcycle pull over to the right (as I am sure he was instructed to do at that point to allow the runners to break the tape) and she briefly followed him for maybe 5 sec but it was too late as the other runners who were 3 meters behind her ran through the finish …. I hate it for her because she would have won the race and walked away with a nice purse but lesson learned, focus on your race
No lead police car/motorcycle ever drives through the finish and breaks the tape. she is a pro, should have known this and needs to be aware of her surroundings. Look up, you cannot miss that finish banner / 100% on her
And she ran this race before and this was explained at the technical meeting.

Not what I expected from the title of the thread. 100% on the athlete. Every top runner knows the motorbike pulls off like that in the finishing straight. I believe she's even run the race before. No one else was confused.

There was a slight screw up at the start, too.
I was in Wave A, right behind the elites with a small break between them. When the horn goes off for the elites, Wave A is supposed to start, too. However, the people assigned to keep the distance between the elites and Wave A must not have known this. There was about a 10 second time when we stood there and some people were yelling "Let's Go!" at the volunteers. I guess someone corrected them and they started the wave but the volunteers hadn't gotten out of the way yet. I nearly ran over a woman who was trying to dodge people as she moved toward the sidewalk, while another woman just stood in one place and let the runners go around her. I really hope nobody was run over and got hurt, either volunteer or runner.
2nd place was about to follow her then said "how about no".
She didn’t see that big azz finish line right in front of her?
Is there a large amount of prize money (and deep) for this race? There seemed to be a very large contingent of Kenyans and Ethiopians for this 10K. It is common in a Marathon but for a 10K????

IN ENGLISH.
The purse is pretty good (see link above), and they clearly have a pretty big travel and lodging budget to get some of these "name" international athletes.
