I’m a 5ft 7 guy weighing 157 pounds. Should I try to cut in order to run 26:30 8k.

What's up with all the short guys on letsrun? I'm beginning to think this is a place for midgets.
Yes. But how much do you weigh now?
Kipchoge is around 115 pounds and 5'6

He said that he wants to run 26:30 for 8k. It doable as he is now.
What kind of tempo work do you do. I would suggest trying to do five to six miles at -around 5:40-5:45 pace. Building up to it not going at that right away.
Believe you should be 134 pounds unless you have a Chris Solinsky, somewhat wrestler like build.

Depends on the composition of those 157 pounds. If it's mostly muscle, run big mileage (whatever that would be for you). The weight you need to drop will probably come off.
It it's mostly fat, eat less and run moderate mileage until you lose some chub.
I'm 5'11.5" (so close, I know) and weigh 130. I'm a 3k specialist and hope to break 8 next year as my PR is under 10 seconds away.
Kejelcha is 6'1" 128.
you little short weaklings shop at Old Navy? You dwarfs are funny looking. I met a tall Latina model today at work, said she likes tall white guys like me. Sorry chumps. At least you have running. Haha 🖕🖕

It's not "chub" but a lot of it is my chubby.

Just eat healthier and train consistently.
Don't put a number on the weight you need to be.
Do the things that will make you the best possible runner. That means; eating well and getting the most out of your training. As you increase your mileage, your body will naturally adapt and you'll become leaner.
Vladimir Kuts (Oly 1956 champ in 5k and 10k and WR holder) was 5'8" and 157 lbs.

Wow...that's huge for a distance runner running that fast of a time! 😲
I'm 5-7 & only weigh 135 soaking wet! 🤣

There are 5'7" 157 lbs. guys with less than 5% body fat and there are 5'7" 157 lbs. guys with more than 20% body fat. If you have very low body fat, attempting to lose weight will make you ill, very ill. If you think you are fat, stop eating desserts and stop carb loading for runs under 8 miles.
A BMI of 24.6 is high for a distance runner, as for body composition, do you live in the gym lifting weights? If not then what you need to remember is that the main flaw of BMI is that it underpredicts overweight and obesity.
I am 6 foot, and 185 pounds. Soldier told me last night I had legs like a marathoner. I took it badly as i am supposed to be a old man 400m runner.
I have 20 percent body fat.

My most recent DEXA put me at 17.7% but I feel aesthetically much better and stronger with the additional weight I put on since it scanned me at 14.2% over a year back.
Twenty-percent. Most colleges no longer have wrestling as a varsity sport. Think about professional boxers. If you were a professional boxer, you would be a super welterweight, near middle weight today. You should be a welterweight or possibly a super lightweight. If you were a professional boxer, you would box men with bigger hands and thicker skulls, an unnecessary risk to a boxer's health. If you were a professional boxer, without doubt you would be highly motivated to get under 10% body fat. That same motivation may improve your running.
