Go down to 1k and it gets a lot more interesting. I’m sure both could run 2:15.
100% this.
What's Jakob maxing out a 1200 in? Well we have seen him multiple times go through in 2.47.xx and he just went through at Bislett in 2.46.9 so with no final 300m to worry about it's not implausible to suggest he could run low 2.44 something and honestly, maybe even faster.
Even 2012 Rudisha? Honestly if he ran close to 2.50 in a TT I'd be seriously impressed. This logic of "well he can run 1.40.9 for the 800 so going through in 1.48 should be easy enough for him to then run at least another 55....right?" reminds me of the same dumb logic with Wariner when people legitimately thought that as a 43 second 400m guy who was lean and a smooth mover, he should be able to go through in 48 in an 800 and surely be able to run a mere 52 after it given how fresh he'd be.
It just doesn't work like this people.
If J.I even half cared in this hypothetical race he wins it 10/10 times. As you said, ZERO chance.

I know you’re not asking about Wilson Kipketer but he would have a chance vs Jakob at 1200m. Kipketer ran 3:59 for a mile when he was just a 1:45 runner at age 20. Kipketer probably could have run more like 3:55 when he was a 1:41.11 runner. This would be enough to stay with Jakob and then possibly outkick him at 1200m.

Isn’t running a fast 1200 more dependent on mile ability than 800 meter speed? I would not pick Kipketer over Ingebrigtsen. No way he’s hanging on in a 2:44 race.

I love Kipketer - I know Rudisha is the greatest ever (can't not be with 2 x OG and the WR in an Olympic final) but I still maintain Kipketer is the best 800m runner ever who should have run 1.40.6/7 long before Rudisha (he ran 1.41.11 going through in 48.3 for gods sake).
But despite all of this, he also has absolutely no chance vs Jakob over 1200m. None.
Even Nick Symmonds who ran like a 3:34 couldn’t win against Jakob. Rudisha has a 1500 m pB in the 3:40s. 1k at 2:19 already says he won’t win, Jakob could run a 2:16 probably.

Well of course peak Kipketer has a chance. Kipketer in today’s spikes on today’s tracks…like you say maybe he is a 1:40.70 guy. Maybe he is a 3:35-3:37 guy. He has a chance, even if only on a windy day to draft off the larger Norwegian.
And we also know peak Seb Coe probably would defeat Jakob at 1200m.

Clearly this is a thread of fanboys of Jakob.
If Coe run 2:12 (old WR) in the 1000m, you think Rudisha will be limited to 2:19 in the 1000m?
Another good "sponsoring" thread for Jakob in LRC.

Kipketer was good for 1:40 in the 90s without bringing tracks or shoes into it, but it doesn’t matter. A 3:35-3:37 guy isn’t beating Jakob Ingebrigtsen at 1200.
Coe is the first person mentioned who could actually do it. Some others, in no particular order: El G, Ngeny, Lagat, Cram, Kiprop, Morceli, Makhloufi, Cheruiyot. I’m probably missing some, but all of these guys would have a legitimate chance, some better than others obviously.

Coe ran a 3:29 1500. Could Rudisha have run faster than 2:19 in the 1k? Yes of course he could have if he was in his best shape and if he trained more for a 1k, which is like 1500m. Here’s my prediction for 1k race between them : Jakob 2:15-2:16. Rudisha 2:17-2:18. 1200m : Jakob beats Rudisha by 3-4 seconds.
Jakob has already been known to take the lead in the 1500m earlier than 3 laps in. So at the 1k -1100 meter mark he has the lead already in some fast races. This isn’t even a debate who could have won 1200m at their prime.

Jakob’s brother Filip got 2.16.46 in the 1000m -bearing Jakob got a better 800m pb than Filip don’t you think Jakob can do sub 2.16..?

Filip ran a 2:16 low when he was not at his best anymore.
