We merged two threads on the same subject into 1. The original thread was entitled, "Mo Katie closes in 1:47.1 to run 3:36, winning euro team champs." We merged it with this thread which was started by LRC's Rojo.
👀 Over at the European Athletics Team Championships, Spain’s Mohamed Katir ran 3:36.95 to win the men’s 1500m – closed the final 800m in 1:47.10 💨 #Silesia2023pic.twitter.com/NIUCAWNeGp
Another reason Jakob can't let the 1500m go slow, the final 800 was faster than his season's best in the 800 last year. Could Mo be the guy to beat Jakob?

In another thread, I got down voted for saying Jakob could likely close a slow 1500 in 1:47. Those same doubters thought he'd only run 8:03 in the 2 mile lmao. This guy beat katir by nearly a second in 3:27.95 which is 55.45 per 400 and people don't think he can string together a 54 + 53 off a slow first 700m. Idk where people got this idea that Jakob is a lumbering slopoke and that he can't finish fast.

Agreed. This is one of the dumbest narratives and I see it brought up constantly. Jakob is only “slow” relative to someone like Wightman. He is faster than Katir, all the OAC guys, etc. The people suggesting he is the slowest guy in the field, couldn’t break 50 for 400, etc. are idiots.

I think every OAC guy would crush him in an open 200m...
One of the most obvious dopers on the circuit. So easy to avoid getting popped too, especially with the missed tests loophole and laughably short traceability window for drugs.

I hope writing that libellous post has made you feel better about your vacuous existence.
Impressive finish for Katir, and Nader and Laros weren’t far behind, probably closing in under 1:48 themselves.
Jakob could close a 3:36.95 in 1:47.1, but it decreases his chances of winning so he won’t let it happen.
Incredible run by the teen Laros. My god, can he actually finish 5-6th place in the WC final this year??
5-6th May be a little ambitious, but he closed in 1:47.X. That is completely insane for a HS runner (or NCAA runner). What is Teare’s 800m PB (the NCAA mile record holder) or Hocker’s 800m PB?

I was on a livestream provided by Dutch TV. Laros got boxed in second lap and had an awful lot of work to do between 700m and 100m, more often than not having to leave lane 1. Despite of this he closed in 1.47.
He was not very happy in his interview on Dutch TV, neither with his tactical mistakes, nor with the result.
