Anyone see this?
Thoughts?
Here are mine.
1) I gotta admit, when I first became aware of it, a snarky thought that popped into my head was, "Wow she races so little , they have to make a 13-minute film about a 49-second race."
2) Having watched it, my main thought is it's cool what a good film maker can do. You can dramatize everything and make it better than real life.
3) As a track fan, I'm stunned by the insecurity. Near the end she asks her husband if he's proud of her for her season opener? Are you kidding me?
4) She says she hates race day and I now understand why she hardly every races. She makes it into way too big of a deal and this film only makes it worse. Millions of track athletes had a season opener this year. It shouldn't be a big deal even for a WR holder but it is for her and this film will only make her anxiety worse.
PS. I was stunned they tried to make her out an underdog at the opening. The film opens with her finishing last in the 60 hurdles (where she was cldearly not even trying) indoors in 2021 and her saying people thought she might not make the team. That didn't happen right? Did any legitimate person doubt she'd make the team when she ran the 60h? Everyone with a brain new she was just fulfilling a sponsor obligation and going through the motions, right?
