For years I trained in Adidas Boston (versions 5/6/7) and they had Continental rubber outsoles. I’m a heel striker and those soles lasted forever. Now, I’ve worn some newer Adidas (Adios 6, SL) and within 100 miles, I’ve worn through the rubber on the heel. Does Adidas still make a shoe that uses Continental rubber in the heel?
Don't know if new versions have it, but i have 1 pr each Boston 4/5/6 and they're all still road worthy due to the Continental outer sole, I have to keep stitching the uppers back together though. Also have Continental bike tires that last and last.
All of my adidas shoes have Continental rubber, but they are trail shoes (or old road shoes). Maybe the Terrex Speed Ultra would work for you? It runs kind of like an old Boston and works fine on asphalt, though I'm mostly on trails. It's currently my favorite. (I stocked on during their December sales when they got as low as $40.)
A quick tangential note to the old Boston wearers...the new Tracksmith shoe fits pretty similarly. Its heel feels higher, but not too much higher. If you are like me and find it hard to find anything quite like the old Bostons, you might want to give the TS shoe a try.
Totally agree with this comment. The outsole wear on the Boston is no issue for me (holds up as well as anything - but im definitely midfoot striker and heels rarely wear out for me), but the uppers are garbage. I came back from a run last week and the uppers on a pair of Boston 11's were BOTH blown out after about 100 miles. Outer edge of the forefoot, where the upper meets the midsole.
Thus far I haven't had this issue on other Adidas shoes (Adios Pro or Prime X).
You are right. The newer models such as Adios 6/7 and Adizero SL do not use continental rubber in the heel. They utilize a less durable rubber compound known as Adiwear. For performance based models, I believe that the newer Bostons (post-v9) and the illegal stacked Prime X still come with a full coverage continental outsoles iirc. Other models includes Ultraboost and Solarboost etc. but they probably aren't in your wheelhouse if you are considering lighter performance daily trainers.
If you are looking for those high durability outsoles in the market, I suggest going for Puma offering. Their Pumagrip outsoles are quite durable.

+1
I had to buy a pair of Boston 11s in a pinch on vacation, and the upper blew out before the end of my trip! (maybe 80mi / 130km) Same spot, lateral edge between pinky and midfoot. I contacted Adidas and they offered a 20% coupon on another pair of Bostons (lol).
I had a pair of Adios Pro 3s blow out in the same spot, but closer to 200mi (luckily these were freebies from Berlin last year).
Meanwhile, the Prime X Strung has over 800 miles and the upper (and midsole and outsole for that matter) is rock solid. Can't wait until the other Adidas models, or at least the A Pro, get on board with Strung upper. Far and away t best in the game, at the moment.
Some of the new pumas have "pumagrip" rubber outsoles. Its not quite as good as continental rubber, but they might work for you. Deviate nitro is a racer with this.
