There are things now that will clear the same day, even sooner, like an hour.
BUT there is a broader international talent pool this year in the NCAA, that might have something to do with it. Yeah I know a guy like Maswanganyi has been around the NCAA already, and hit a big PB…but I haven’t done a basic comparison yet. Remember the wind in the final was measured at +1.8, which makes a big difference.
Spikes might not make a huge difference, but that depends on sprint style. What makes a huge diff is the track surface, both that trained on, and that competed on. Idk what the Austin track is like, but some of these things are damn fast now. You feel it the second you step on. It makes a huge difference when you are putting sprint force down to the track.
Training? IMO no. Nutrition? IMO no. Legal supps? Yes, a little bit. Spikes? Not so much. Tracks? Yes. PED’s? Yes. Recruitment? Somewhat. Better treatment for recovery between hard sessions? IMO yes. NCAA sprint programs finally waking up to a more sensible meet schedule, focused on nats? IMO yes. Perfect conditions? Yes.
It’s a whole bunch of factors.
Maybe I will do some basic PB comparisons later! In the meantime, off to do an actual workout. Have to try to not be so inspired by recent events, I will probably tear something 😂
