OK, but what's the logic? If I am in the top 3-5 on the third lap of a 5K and get tripped (not intentionally shoved, impeded, singlet grabbed, etc.), should I get auto-advanced to the final on a protest?
In cycling, a crash in the final 3K of a race means that everyone in the peloton is awarded the same time. They don't nullify the results or award extra sprint points to the crashed rider because he could have possibly won the stage.
Does track have any rules for this situation? If the foul is obvious, then DQ the perp and advance the aggrieved party. If it happened with less than 75% of the distance completed, then it's just an unfortunate incident unless an obvious violation took place.
