Here are some articles on Glance's passing. This thread was actually started before he died but after he was found unresponsive at practice by Kirani James.
Only 66 years old.
Auburn has a great tribute upon him where author Jeff Shearer describes him as "the greatest sprinter in Auburn history and the university's first Black head coach in any sport/
Harvey Glance has passed away from complications related to a stroke he had a few days ago. He was a star at Auburn and coached at Auburn as well as Alabama. He coached 3x 400m Olympic medalist Kirani James.

RIP.
Damn fast guys falling fast!
Old guys. You'll see, someday soon all your friends will start dying,, including me. RIP Mr Glance.

He was such a huge deal when I was growing up. Nobody was happy that Borzov dominated Munich. So there was desperation to find the next generation of American sprinters leading to Montreal and beyond.
Recent days are stark reminder that 65 is the new 65. And so forth. The adjustments are nonsense.

Don't say that, you'll only be 68 this July! You're my favorite poster. When that day happens well over 20 years from now, I will no longer post on these boards as it truly wouldn't be the same without George Malley:(

Yeah hang in there Malmo. You are not my favorite poster (I don’t have one) but you are a very good poster.
Very kind thoughts, however, I'm very comfortable with my own mortality. I'm slowing down rapidly, and I do not want, or expect, to make it another ten years.

Remember that in Munich, Eddie Hart and Rey Robinson were the favorites having tied the WR at the US trials. They were not in the final because they missed the semi, after getting the wrong starting time from their coach. Who knows if one or both would have beaten Borzov.
Third place finisher at the trials, Robert Taylor, took the Silver.

You're slowing down rapidly??? That just bummed me out as you are far too young. I hope your health is too bad?
I just watched the 1982 NYC Marathon on YouTube while on the treadmill...you passing your water bottle to Beardsley and you leading for many stages during the race.

What ails you, if I can ask? You’re not that old now and another ten years would seem reasonable to someone healthy and your age. Be well.
Harvey Glance was one of the most friendly and loved athletes of his day. His smile could be seen across the track. Super talent. So sad to hear this news. RIP Mr. Glance. You will be missed.

Being a bit older than you I find this post compelling enough that I want to respond to it but don't really know what to say. I sure can relate to slowing down rapidly but I can't decide how comfortable I am with my own mortality. I think Woody Allen was onto something when he said, "I don't mind dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens." Anyway, RIP to Harvey Glance and good luck to with the last laps.
