You're acting like you set the record. You probably didn't break 5 in high school. Fck up.
Webbs 3:46 will prob be broken either this summer or next….
but that 3:53 has another 10-15 years shelf life.
Doesn’t Kessler’s HSR (which was faster than the NCAA record at the time) convert to about 3:51.5ish? Clearly the superior mark to Webb’s. No reason someone like that couldn’t break it — Kessler could have.

Sure but Kessler is also a once-in-a-generation talent and he didn't break Webb's mile record (whether or not he tried, it's just a fact that he didn't). "Someone like" him won't come around for a while is my guess
Webb's High School 800m pb was 1:47 and none of these 2 have gone under 1:50. Taking 800m aside, they lack the strength too. Galen never broke 4:00 mile in high school and pulled off 13:37 5K and yet Connor Burns narrowly took off half a second with a PB of 3:58. Just sayin'. 3:53 is tough even for Professional 5K/10K guys so. It's not IMpossible just not probable for these two youngsters.

I HAVE MADE IT PRETTY CLEAR AT THIS POINT THAT I AM GUNNING FOR THAT NATIONAL RECORD (3:53.43 BY ALAN WEBB IN 2001) – ME AND SIMEON BIRNBAUM. WE HAVE ERIK SOWINSKI PACING SO IT SHOULD ROLL THROUGH PRETTY FAST. AND I GUESS WE WILL SEE WHAT’S POSSIBLE.

I don’t think it’ll take 15 years. The fact that in the last 3 years, we’ve had 1 kid put up a significantly better performance (Hobbs) and a tons of sub 4s to me indicates it’s possible.
Hobbs is a generational talent. But he also basically a serious runner for 18 months prior to breaking the record.
I think someone like a Mu, Brandon Miller, Rheinhardt, etc could do it. A person who was phenom in AAU and comes into HS as a like a 4:08 miler as freshman.

What i'm saying bro. People were coming in talking about 3:52s. Nah. For this reason exactly. At this level if you want to run a fast mile it ALL has to come from that 800 IMO. Webb ran 1:47 and probably could have run 1:46. Ryun split 1:47 in a 4x800 and ran 1:44.9 the next year in 1960s technology. Kessler was honestly just a beast. I wish we got more data on what else he was capable of, but in all honesty I also think that 3:34 was just one of those "miracle runs" that happens once a decade.
There’s a reason the hell no option in the poll came out on top.
regardless, 4 dudes breaking 4 in the same race is almost as cool as Webb’s 3:53, please give these kids some goddamn respect
That being said, Burns is a clown. Reminiscent of Flatts antics last year. His success has obviously gone to his head a bit, but I hope he can mature in college and grow into a person who can handle his own talent

Say what you want about flatt and all his talk but he was legit. Ran under 1:47 more times than there have been athletes under 1:47. He never got the HSR but he was close and he was fast.
It's hard to run 1:46. It's even harder to to it multiple times. It's much harder to do it multiple times, go to US champs as a high schooler, and do it twice within a few days, all with the eyes of an entire country on you.

3:53 itself was, too.
It's pretty cool, still, that as many US high schoolers broke 4 in one race as had in the whole history of US running when Webb ran his 3:53 -- Webb was the first US high schooler in 34 years under 4!
It took until Drew Hunter, I think, for a third HS runner to go sub-3:59 -- that just happened three times in one race.

Oh yes, he was obviously legit, and I will say that he was probably the most entertaining athlete to follow last year. Every race he was entered in was a rage I looked forward to. Still, huge ego, talked a huge talk, and couldn’t quite walk it. He and Burns are similar in that way, though Burns fell much farther short of his stated goals than Flatt did. His 13:37 blew me away though, his talent is obviously there, if he can just reign in his ego. Different events, very similar runners.

We need to talk about how suspicious this guys career was. He performed well in no name small time meets and then when the important stuff came up he was no where to be found.
