Posted this on another thread but the mid-d/distance points for the UO women was the lowest at the conference meet since 2005. Unless you’re giving Jerry credit for sprints/jumps/throws, not sure this indicates anything about his coaching.
Hahaha right. This idiot posting a nonsensical thread. Oregon has run off their best coaches in Vin and Powell and now has had sketchy schmucks like fascist Johnson and burrito Jerry.

I’d love to agree with this but there seems to be investment in the field events and the sprints are already strong. The distances are good whatever the pencil neck chatter says. bad stretch coming for duck haters. I dunno - is it more fun to be in Eugene or Fayetteville?
Most posters only pay attention to distance. He could win nationals and they would complain about the distance points.
Exactly. This guy one pac 12s in his first year after getting roasted all year long but apparently winning isn't good enough.
It's and outside coach to walk in and win a championship in their first year. I don't care what he vent group they are supposed to coach there's a lot that can happen over several events and Jerry held it together.
Oregon's non-Jerry coaches are really good. Jerry kept Curtis Taylor, associate head coach and responsible for a lot of those points, but added Shalane Flanagan, who is already getting results, Chris Solinsky, whose results take longer but obviously did a great job with Parker Valby, and the great throws coach and Olympian Brian Blutreich (UCLA '86-90), who has already coached athletes to 28 NCAA titles. The throwers are already contributing a lot of points. Now Jerry just has to start getting his men's distance runners to do something outside of the steeple. Next year, it is not going to be enough to do okay in xc and well in the men's distances at conference; he is going to have to get distance and middle distance athletes to scoring major points at NCAA in all three championships.
Brian Blutreich, 1992 Olympian and a two-time USTFCCCA National Assistant Coach of the Year, is the new Ducks’ throws coach as announced August 3, 2022, by head
A breakdown of the 4 major categories (distance/sprints and hurdles, Jumps/Throws) and misc (relays/multis)-
Distance: 18
Sprints/Hurdles - 41
Jumps - 22.5
Throws - 54
Relays/Multis - 23
So the athletes Jerry coaches were the bottom tier and scored 9 points less than the year before. But I'll give him credit for hiring Brian Blutreich, who got the throws to score 54, an improvement from the 19 they scored the previous year. Without him, they wouldn't have won the meet as they scored 1/3 of the team's points. Imagine being coach Blutreich and having that much success and getting your athletes ready to compete in your first year at the program. No need for a rebuild - they said it couldn't be done!

Funny you mention the Powells, who coached the UW men to the title off the distance squad with 63 points of their 151 - something you'd see in a UO squad of yester-year. They scored just as much in the 1500 alone (20) and Jerry's boys did in all distance events. Maybe Uncle Phil is regretting not finding a way to keep them on board?
