yea, i mean i totally could understand why they wouldn't bother to push it. but they genuinely could've made history and instead decided to just lose lol(was genuinely up to them if they wanted to win or lose, it just had to not be a kickers race). i think it's a good thing the announcers bashed them so much for that. gives me hope next year we might actually get an interesting race.
It was 4:01 at the 1 mile, 8:00 at 2mile, and then 12:04 at 3 mile. The majority of the field (10 out of 14) seemed to be in the mix for over half of the race before things slowed down on the anchor leg, which allowed them to regroup. It was pretty competitive.
The last lap was exciting to watch live, but considering how they advertised this as a "record breaking attempt" for one particular team who was boxed in with 150m to go and ultimately finished fourth, it was slightly disappointing. I was hoping for something closer to the meet record, not the WR. That wasn't going to happen in the cold misty conditions that haunted the track today.
I wonder if Washington got some sort of financial support from the meet to make this East Coast trip...
perhaps with the weather, the way it was, they decided before hand that the record was off the table, so go for the win. However, neither happened so I can certainly understand the frustration of the hard-core fans.
Bad tactics but definitely an exciting finish especially considering the conditions. four miles of racing and SIX teams finish within a second of each other? Thrilling.
not for nothing but does anyone remember the race at Penns were Ches let the kid from nova back in the race on the anchor leg and then ended up losing on a kick?
Who was the first leg? It wasn’t Nathan green as the live results suggested. I’m putting the loss on the first leg but also Houser. NCAA champ running a 4:10/running scared? Seemed like he lacked the confidence he could beat another anchor (OK State?).

For which team, Washington?
If you look on the meet results, the * next to the lineup means that the confirmed lineup.
The lineups appear to be all confirmed as of 5:40pm ET

The 4 by mile has to be the most underrated record in track. Every few months there's someone hyping an attempt at it and no-one getting close.
That Ireland team, as lots of people have pointed out, were way better than the times they ran for the record and every team should go in with that expectation. More than that though you have to appreciate the psychology of it. This was a once in a century situation for a small nation to have 4 great milers who, if they ran their hearts out, could make the record books.
If you go in treating it like anything other than the race of your career don't expect to get as close to your PR as the Irish did.

In 2015, the race you refer to..Ches did not let Jordy Williamz the Nova Anchor back in the race..he was already in it..he let the rest of the field in, Oregon and Nova were at 12:03-04.x,(3;55 gets you under 16 flat) Williamz right on Chez and then Chez, and then Williamz started walking. The issue with the 4 x mile on the UW thing, is..if you cannot TT it and get away, which they could not, if your anchor goes out and leads a 3:56 like closing mile ? Many of those guys can run that or close..and then you are LEADING, and unless, you are THE most dominant guy in college now and they proved they weren't that Indoors at Nats...all you do is pull out the other other guys and get walked down. Murphy is a 3:55/7:45 guy Indoors, there was no guarantee UW was beating him anyway, at home. Murphy is now one of the quick shifters, I have seen in a while, never thought he would be a huge kicking miler, saw him in HS..I was wrong. Murphy made his tactical error the day before , going too early, thinking he might get covered up with like 190 to go, could not carry that all the way in and got picked off.

After the first three legs, Oregon's Edward Cheserek and Villanova's Jordy Williams needed to run a 3:55 to break the 16:00 barrier. Instead we got something...
