One to keep an eye on for the foreseeable future. He ran at the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational where he only ran the 100m and scratched the 200m later in the meet. He ran a 9.86 with a 4.1 tailwind and followed that up with a 9.83 with a 2.6 tailwind and defeated Noah Lyles in the same race. The races are floating on youtube so you’ll be able to see them soon.
He mentioned that he is still unsure as to where he would represent on the global level but it seems it will either Zambia or Suriname which are each of his parents countries respectively. He is also a texas A&M commit !!!
Him beating Noah Lyles is more impressive than the time. I'll be curious to see if he goes pro, or goes to Texas. Would probably make more money going to Texas.
Bump. This result needs more love than it's getting. Yes it was at the NTC, a ridiculously fast track (I can confirm that first hand), and he had a tailwind, but he beat Lyles. Lyles is likely going to give Bolt's 19.19 a run this season so Asinga taking him down is very noteworthy.

i think the lack of attention is because the thread title doesnt mention he's a high schooler (the one time rojo doesnt barge in and edit it...). Ive never heard of him and assumed when i saw the thread that some rando african ran some fast times at altitude or something

He's definitely having a breakout year. He was at a tiny private school in Missouri up until this year when he moved down to Floirda. Last year he dominated in-state and then won Great Southwest in the postseason but has clearly taken things to another level since the move.
I hope he does not run on the college circuit. The college circuit chews you up for no good reason and by the time most athletes leave four years later, they are but a shadow of themselves.
Young man, steer clear of running the college circuit.
Pat Henry shyted a brick when he saw the results. Asinga will sign a Puma deal by the end of the spring.
exactly what i'm saying. quite frankly he would be foolish not too at this point.
also, it is ridiculous how little attention asinga has gotten for this since then. 9.83, wind legal or not in high school is absolutely insane. like, i literally cannot put into words how good this is. this should be on major news media outlets right now, just like boling was after he ran 9.98.
It’s “not getting attention” here because there are 3 other threads discussing it. Also it is a sprint, and this is basically a distance board.
It’s something hing like 9.95 basic, but these are windy CLERMONT times. Even though he beat Lyles twice, he needs to run this time at a real meet, at a real facility, before those who know anything can get excited. For now, it’s only interesting, not exciting.
Ryun, Barnes, and even Knighton blow this away, if Knighton’s 200m can be believed. I am still neutral on that one, for the same reason I am neutral on this one.

Welp, this was the first thread to bring it up and it sat vacant for some time. The times by themself are eye opening, but if you wanna downplay them because of conditions and the track I get it. But you can't downplay him beating a very solid field which includes Lyles. While you're throwing shade I'm surprised you didn't say Asinga lacks speed too, you know, when you said this about Nkrumie:

has limited upside, needs some speed.
Nobody is saying he's going to go on and win a world championship, or break a world record, or duplicate this time or this performance again. But come on man, finding a reason to belittle his performance is petty. There are literally just a handful of other noteworthy high school performances in history as good as or better than this.
