Got stuck in a box, ran almost even splits. But as you say, for a 5000 guy not too bad.
If Cooper runs the 5k at USAs . . . and is fighting it out with Woody for a spot on the team with a lap to go . . . that would be must-watch tv . . .
I hate to break it to you all, Cooper Teare is not a 5000m guy.
He is most excellently suited for the 1500/mile. He was able to break 4-minutes during the pandemic in a time trial (1600 or mile, it does not matter). He also has the speed where there is more to be had. If he can run 1:45.x I think he can run 3:31-3:32 and that is enough.
Yes, he can ALSO run excellent 5000m times and that speed definitely adds to his repertoire hinting at the ability of closing in 1:53-1:56 to win races. But he can win USAs at 1500 too, make no mistake.
As far as Woody Kincaid. He is a respected runner and been under 13 several times but by no means a lock. He is getting older. I think Cooper has him easy.

If he's a 1500 guy he's on the wrong team then, unfortunately. Anyways, his 13:06 is still better than 3:34.8. His US 1500 title was run in a soft field.

That already happened at the last Olympic trials, Woody got third and Cooper got fourth. Cooper was already a 3:50 miler at that point, but Chelimo, Grant, and Woody made their move and opened up a big gap over the last 100
leo ran 1:44.56 (probably could have run at least 13:20 with all the strength he did, probably would have moved to longer if he didn’t have the worst years of his life with his uncle dying and that being traumatic )
That's nice. Didn't AWebb run that in high school like 20+ years ago? He wasn't much of a serious 5/10 guy though, 13:10, 27:34, but give him a pass on those since he only ran the 5 four times and the 10 once.
im a big Teare fan, but off this and his indoor 3k he’s definitely meant to be a 5k guy. There are high school guys running close to that time (not this year yet, but last). Not quick enough to be world class in a tactical 1500, though I do think he could be better in an all out time-trial style race. 5k is his future
Teare is B Team, maybe. Hocker & Teare will never catch YN now and others are coming to take their place. Nice while it lasted but its over for them.
I agree but not because I’m a Hocker or Teare doubter, but Nuguse is an all time great talent.
Hocker and Teare could run 3:29 and get a bronze at some point like Kerr, but Nuguse is one of the greatest mile talents ever to walk the earth.
I mean 3:47 with a 25 second final 200m in his first year as a pro? That’s an El Guerrouj/Morceli level run. It’s almost more impressive than running a 3:28 in a Monaco time trial.
