Scott Fauble ran a damn great race. It was highly impressive and dont discount Conner Mantz's performance either. Great second marathon for him. L take

Gosh dang it, y'all are just a bunch of losers who couldn't even run a 2:30 marathon and keep complaining about the state of US running. Go and change something about it, i.e., pledge some money for the sport or shut the door and give those guys a break! Boston is a tough course, Mantz ran with Kipchoge for a good bit of the race and Fauble again ran a very solid race.
We need socialized healthcare. The majority of our good college runners graduate with mid 5 figures of debt and need insurance. Our western society is too expensive to chase the dream. Those few that get a contract keep running, the others have money from mommy and daddy (which if I did I would have done the same). That’s it that is the talent pool.
There are 10 13:35 guys a year that fall into that zone. Not fast enough for a contract and no family money. Off to be a corporate slave.
I find it amusing people are asking for the OP’s times. That isn’t the point. While the wording might be a little “rude”, it is not wrong to point out that American men (and often women, though not today) are not competitive in international marathons. There is no reason you have to have a 2:03 PR to say this.
I didn’t watch today but it looks like Mantz hung in pretty well and Fauble ran a strong race. But these may be our top 2 Americans (if Rupp hurt) and they were roughly a mile off the winner and ran times that were roughly matched by their predecessors in the 1970-80s
Yea 2:09 and 2:10 aren't rediculous times for pro marathoners but how Conner faught it out at the front for so long and how smart Scott ran from the gun I can't respect their races more. Conner has a lot to learn and with time he can figure out how to hang a bit longer. With Scott he runs consistantly and smart which put him in a place to go top ten in a stellar field.

So we pay for their full ride in college for 4-8 years but they should still be coddled after graduation? How about they get a REAL job?
Simply not enough US 27 minute 10k guys running the marathon. That's what it takes to run 2:06 or so, and that is if an athlete has the goods for the 26.2 distance. It is a numbers game.
If Mantz with multiple XC titles and 3:37 1500m wheels is barely good enough, I'm wondering who else qualifies as "most" LOL
Mantz ran a 2:10 because he gassed out trying to run with guys who's marathon PBs are 2:04 and under. He ran to win and came up short.
It was only his 2nd marathon and he probably would have beat his debut 2:08:16 if he runs his own race rather than trying to keep up with the top guys.
