Why did Beamish go to Mt Sac instead of Bryan Clay anyway? The latter had a much faster race in the steeple, as it does in every other distance event….
He mentioned on this week's podcast that he hadn't done much steeple work. He was using this race to just feel out the event. Obviously a slow time, but the goal today wasn't to run fast. A wins a win. Overall a decent day in the office.
Beamish is a 3:36/1500 guy so, provided his technique is decent, he should eventually get down to around 8:10 to 8:15 for the chase minimum. I watch him a lot on the coffee club YouTube videos and he seems like a good guy. Quite modest and self-effacing. If you saw him in an airport you would think "who's that modern day zen looking hippie?" You wouldn't necessarily identify him as a pre world-class runner with potential to improve.
