Borrow some spikes from a friend on the team. If you are at an American high school, the coach might have a box of old "lost and found" spikes and spikes that kids grew out of. Take a pair of those.
And don't ever say "splats" again. That is not a word.
Also, don't say "I am a distance runner so I'm gonna run slow." I know a lot of distance runners who can close with a very fast kick. You need to learn how to run fast to be a good distance runner.
You need a pair of spikes if you are on a track team. You will run the 4x400 rather often (if your coach is normal) because a distance runner needs to work on closing speed anyway and a 4x400 is a good place to run a hard lap.
You don't need Dragonflys to run a JV relay so just by the cheapest spikes that fit your foot.
Something like the Rival (which you could also use in the 800 as well).
