I think this is a legitimate attempt. Lets wait and see what happens.
We need BOOTS ON THE GROUND
He is moderately well tracked by Strava, but often huge delays in posting and switches to others watches. Also his tracker is in the van, not him, which is annoying.
He doesn't have anything like the quality or ability to run 50 miles for 64 days straight and it's very disrespectful to put himself in the class of Bruce Tulloh, who won the European Championships and was a sub 4 miler.
His 9hr30 days have now risen to 12hr30s a week in. So let's see. Yes, his potty mouth is also unnecessary.
Finally, everything's commercial. You can't follow his stats properly because Whoop charges the big bucks to look at their site, and he's always trying to sell something, mostly from the company Nucalm.
And your donations don't go to charity, but to Gofundme, which is far less transparent, and more for people who have lost their home, or need an operation. And he refuses to reply to any questions sent to him on Insta.
He now has sore shins and burnt lips, so see how he goes for the next few days.
I think it would be fun to run across the country and not tell anyone beyond people you might encounter along the way who ask you. Don’t livestream or Strava it, don’t have an attention-seeking Instagram account, just do it. And don’t claim any records or what the hell ever, just go home.
It's concerning there are several runners in the group who all look better than Goodge, and that they admit to swapping watches around at this early stage. What's to stop them sharing the Strava watch around them in 10k relays?
Goodge looks fresh as a daisy on the vids, no fatigue or rough patches visible and some bizarrely quick marathons that are completely out of sync with something like this. He will either horribly blow up, or something is very wrong.
It's scary how commercial it is and how much cash seems to be riding on it all.
Well, there's commercial affiliation, but he founded a company called Puresport. So I'm pretty sure everything about it is pure.
Not much to see yet.
For a record run it's unacceptable that the tracker sits in the car. Also multiple watches at the same day seems weird.
His mile splits look very inconsistent but to be fair I never saw my mile splits. Right now he is running through the Mojave desert in the most beautiful weather possible. He has a big operation going, so the pressure will be high to continue when things are getting tough.
This last part. I’m willing to believe that certain transcontinental cheaters like that UK Rob guy who got caught out by a Letsrunner fully intended to legitimately run across the country, only to find that it’s harder than they thought (real shocker there!) and turned to cheating because there was too much money/sponsorship/attention riding on it. It must be easy to say, I’ll just ride in the RV for a few hours in the middle of the night in an empty rural area because I’m not recovered from my last leg yet. Then that becomes, I’ll ride in the RV for a whole night’s leg because I’m exhausted and need to recover. Then from there it just gets worse.
Still zero Strava data from day 7, and we're now well into day 8. Day 7 looked challenging in the heat and all sorts of wardrobe combinations were tried.
If they want us to take this seriously, they should let us know how he's doing, and not just say stuff like: "another 30 miles done, boooooom!"
There was a long thread here about 20 years ago or so where two former college runners decided to run across the country just for the fun of it after graduation. I don't think they had any sort of support vehicle. Each pushed a baby jogger containing their supplies. Some nights they slept off the side of the road, some nights a local runner might offer them a place to sleep, shower, and get a good meal. They documented their journey on LetsRun but I can't find the thread anymore.
85F are no challenging heat.
What was the issue with the wardrobe?
Whatever happened to that chubby fellow BTW? That was incredibly entertaining.
He’s no David Goggins.
Hey TMADDDHASFNE, TMAD Baby, Why U So Mad? Why so pent up? Go play outside
Technology got you down? Luddites not meeting today? Alexi Pappas ignoring you?
Waiting for the sun to come out to do a ten mile run. It’s been cold in Cali and my need for spring warmth is acute. Trolling on LRC is a diversion from the world in turmoil.
You mad bruh?!
Any Trans Con run that aims to claim a record surely has to be as verifiable as Marshall Ulrich and Pete Kostelnick's were, with GPS watch and tracker carried by the runner and the data uploaded to be as near to real time as possible. If the intended route is published in advance and independent verification is welcomed then that is about as good as modern technology allows. All of this is well known to anyone seriously attempting such a feat. The above protocol is hardly a secret.
We can forgive delays in areas where there is no phone reception and non-stop video coverage is clearly not practical as the backup vehicle will not always be with the runner.
I've got my own feelings on how this will pan out, but let's just watch and see. Please don't deport Harry and Meghan back to us though, please no.
Yep, all just appears so joyless to have the tracker on the van, which didn't move for 14 hours, and just now has done 8 miles cross-country off the route. We get such little insight into how the run is going. All he's said today is that it's a really big day because Arsenal are playing. Not how he feels, not whether there are any issues or concerns - nothing.
It's the most frustrating multi-day run I've ever followed. Whether he does a 5 hour marathon, or 7 hour marathon, no interesting insight or titbits. Maybe one the other day about sunburnt lips and massaging sore shins. Otherwise, not a single word about fatigue, just a daft fantasy video about how he's going to do this, not a shred of which is based on reality. [The 5 hour marathon in the morning, quick rest, and then "ignite."]
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
