and why.
and why.
Mississippi or Arkansas. Nothing going for them. Bottom of the barrel in education, healthcare. Tops in poverty, crime, racism.
I was going to say Mississippi or Alabama, so Mississippi is ahead in this competition.
Do they even have an airport?
Ranking from best to worst (there are states that others may also consider part of the south):
North Carolina
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
South Carolina
Louisiana
Alabama
Arkansas
Mississippi
Georgia is trash
Atlanta, Memphis, Jackson, Mobile, etc.
They do have some airports but mostly people are leaving.
It's totally subjective. What are you looking to avoid?
I'd say Georgia.
They're so backwards they finally just got a Gap, unfortunately it's between Stacey Abrams teeth.
I suppose one could quibble about the ranking of some of the states in between NC and MS (I'd rank GA ahead of FL for example), but this is pretty accurate.
California
everyone knows why
It's Mississippi.
Mississippi has a few redeeming areas (notably the Gulf Coast, Oxford and Tupelo), but the rest of the state is poor, flat, boring, hot, fat, slow, unhealthy, uneducated. It's hell.
The poverty in the Delta region (northwest corner of the state) is unbelievable. Town and after town of extreme, grinding poverty. It's truly shocking to see It first hand. I've driven throughout the south and there's nothing on the level of the Mississippi Delta (towns like Cleveland, Greenwood, Itta Benna and all the little other hamlets in the region).
Mississippi's black life expectancy is below 70. I think for men it's like 67. Which is on par with Central America and poor Asian countries. Third world.
Dallas, Birmingham, New Orleans, Nashville, Houston.
Better than San Francisco or NYC.
There are parts of New York or even California that are just as backwoods and and redneck as [enter southern state here].
The coast of Georgia is great. Savannah area is great. Same for South and North Carolina. Again, if you are near cities or the ocean then it's great. If you are in the middle of nowhere in any state then it is back woods trash.

South Carolina is a dark horse for one of my favorite southern states.
The Lowcountry near the coast is beautiful. That Spanish moss on oaks, the marshy estuaries, the beaches. Awesome.
Obviously Charleston is a fun (and upscale) destination. The whole coast south of Charleston is pretty developed and for the most part, wealthy. Hilton Head, Kiawah, Seabrook Islands. All beautiful.
Greenville in the northwest corner is a boomtown. There's over 1 million people in that region and it's prosperous and relatively safe. Lots of money flowing into that area.
Colombia mostly sucks but they're trying to gentrify it.
The rest of the state is trash, not interesting at all. But the nice areas are very nice.
We won’t have locals defending Mississippi because they don’t have internet yet.
In defense of Mississippi, at least they have enough common sense not to crap on the sidewalks like they do in the bastion of progressivism, San Francisco.
Of course not, if you have no sidewalks you can't crap on them.
Louisiana
Only redeeming city is New Orleans, but there's nothing quite like the poverty levels there in the nearby area. Third world levels.
Every few years a hurricane destroys what's left of those areas. Then you got Lafayette and Shreveport. Two horrible cities.

Lafayette is way better than New Orleans. Not nearly as exciting, but at least they don't have a mayor from Compton, so at least it has a future.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
