Title. I’m curious as to what the PRs of the average (male) LetsRun poster is. I’m thinking 2:00, 4:10 (1500), 9:00 (3000), and 16:00 (5k). 10k is probably 34 and half is likely 1:20; marathon probably 2:50.

Actual PR: 17:30 5K
Claimed PR: 14:59 5K
Yeah, I have actually run a 1:58, 4:17, and 9:03, but I have claimed that I've run a 1:54, sub 4:15, and sub 9:00.
I don't consider it to be fully lying though since I'm sure I could have run sub 1:55 if I specialized in the 800
So you think the average LetsRun poster is an 800m runner?
A few ran a bit further in the 880y
$175-225k/yr
15:30-16:30 5k
25-50 Body Count
Timing is everything. I never did an 800 in college, and only lasted a few seasons anyway. High school meets my senior year were all windy as heck, except for a district one that lasted into the night so I set my 1600 and 3200 HS PR's the same day, probably had time in me for either or both. Tended to run faster on the roads in summer or between seasons, both in high school (like everyone) and college.
I went off halfway through college on my own and trained like I did in high school with a bit more mileage and wound up even faster than I was under the coach. For a few years after graduating I kept at it off-and-on, and tried to run a sub-60 400 every spring - I did it until I was 31 or 32.
1:58, 4:28, 9:54 HS (52.8 400)
4:07 (road flats), 9:14 (3K), 15:11 college
32:54, 1:16:41 half, 55 mid 10 miler (10 miler during high school, other races as college sophomore)
We all ran at least 14:30 5000. That is the minimum requirement to post here. You have to check that button before posting.
This post was removed.
Here's the deal, the old (and I say Old) statman thread will invariably pop up in the discussion. While it was semi-vetted and somewhat legit at the time (20 years ago), letsrun was also a much smaller place and there was no doubt a fair amount of selection bias. An updated list is needed.
800 - 2:03, 1500 - 4:05, 3K - 8:54, 5K - 15:13, 10K 31:45, 1/2 m 1:10, M - 2:29
Some with NT which defaults to the slowest poster. That makes averages much higher than expected.
I say 2:15-5:30-10:30-19:00

14:30 is so 1992. It has been 14:12 since at least 2010.
I identify as a 3:55 miler
Stunning and brave. Therefore, you are a 3:55 miler.
My resume says that I have PRs of
3:59 mile, 12:59 5K, 26:59 10K, 1:05:59 Half.
Hoping to run my first marathon this year. Likely around 2:09:59
Probably faster than you think. The people most likely to get on this site in particular, as opposed to any other running site, probably trend more to the type who are either fast or trying to be. Or in some of our cases, were fast a long time ago. You did say PR, not what some of our old geezer bodies are capable of right this second.
But point being, there are other running communities out there that your average hobby-jogger is more likely to join than this one.

I think that there is a lot of variety among posters.
The ones that are currently a seriously training high school, college, or recent post-collegiate, and the ones that are older and did this in their youth do, I suspect form a very large group. Probably nowhere else on the internet is this group so well represented. This is the group that regularly displays their track and field knowledge.
This group can/have/or will all break 2:00 in the 800, if they were middle distance. I am not qualified to guess where the sprinters fit in, but this group is more middle and long distance than anything else.
But it is also clear that this is not the only gourd of people on the site. There are hobby joggers here, ranging up to the super serious hobby jogger, many of whom have no youthful background in track and field.
And then there are the clear cut crazies that have found the site somehow, many of whom I think have little to no connection to the sport
880y in 2:03 on a cinder track in 1970. My junior year of high school. Lingering hamstring issues my senior year. Freshman year of college, I ran a 4:34 mile on a hard Grasstex track at Oberlin. Stopped competitive track after that to focus on my major.
I didn’t have the leg speed to be a good 800 runner, but I should have run faster in the mile. I guess I was always burned out.
This is not important and you will never know anyway.
