Based on their email and the rumors — it seems their bid got pulled?
one question I have had is whether the starting area is big enough (wide enough) for 31 teams plus individuals. The ACC with 15 teams seemed to pretty much fill it up

I assume the OP is joking about a mistake UVA made today.
Today, UVA sent out an email to college coaches today about the home meets they are hosting in 2023 before NCAAs. The email had a BIG grammatical mistake in it. It started, "We wanted to provide you all with the details for our two cross country meets we will host in lieu of the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships."
Since in lieu means instead, I can see why some were confused. Anyways, to see a screen shot of the email yourself.
Now, I have heard A LOT of college coaches are bitching about two things.
1) The course. I've heard it's unproven, too narrow, has no warmup area and possibly not large enough for spectators.
2) NCAAs is being held as the same weekend as the UVA - Duke football game so hotels will be impossible to find.
Let's ignore #1 as NCAA coaches always bitch about the course. I've said 90% of the World xc courses would never pass for NCAA courses as they'd be viewed as too dangerous. #2 is a legit concern for me.

There are a number of places somewhat close in Richmond that is an hour away from Charlottesville -- so finding lodging and driving up to Charlottesville day of the meet should not be an issue. Also some places up the mountain on 64 in Waynesboro and Staunton. Will also add that Duke people struggle to fill up Wallace Wade (home games) so doubt they will be packing out hotels. Now there is also no (very limited) parking at Panorama Farms -- at least when I have gone to races there -- so my guess there will be remote parking and shuttles too.
and this course should NOT be allowed to host NCAAs. Vin used his connections to manipulate the system.
Why not? They put in bids to host as have others and gone through the selection process with the NCAA.
.... or is the "concern" that the NCSU squad basically owned the course in the ACC WXC race with Touhy setting a new women's course record?
From what I have seen from video the start are will be pretty congested and the course narrows down by 600 I think and then at 1000 it is in the wooded area with all those rolling hills.
I was able to tempo at Panorama for ACCs what an amazing course. I’ve raced at Cowboy Jamboree and Stanford and probably 50 other across the country and the UVA course is legit. What an amazing facility. Hope they get to hair would love to rerun again in 2023!!
