Not sure how you want to determine this. Nuguse has had the best indoor season.
But if he raced Jakob right now I think a lot of people on this site would take Yared to win and in many books that makes him the #1 miler in the world?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is definitely the favorite for the World Champs in our book but who currently is the #1 miler in the world? This was from our Supporters Cl...
I mean if you are talking about just today, then I would probably say yes. But id pick Jakob in like a month, since he is still coming back to fitness after some illness.

It’s not even close this winter. He’s clearly #1. Will he avoid injury, will this form last, will the others build back even better, only time will tell. I think he continues this form through the summer and really puts pressure on Jakob and the others when it counts. Can’t wait!
I recommend all on this site caring less about 1 mile results and pay attention more to 1500m. This isn't high school. The difference between 1600m and 1609.344m is not enough for their to be a 1600m type athlete and a 1609.344m type athlete. There is enough difference between 1500m and 1609.344m. There have been U.S. 1500m runners with faster 1500m personal best than Y N's not to make U.S. Team. Y N needs to worry about making U.S.A. T&F team. Once Y N makes USA Team, we will need to see him make W.C. 1500m semifinal. Let's see that before we worry about Y N's 1500m ranking.
Kejelcha is the indoor WR holder and never won a notable mile race outdoors.
Yakob destroys Nuguse this summer.
It’s not just the times. He blew away Hoare and Katir and others. True, they are not Jakob, but it’s not like Nuguse was simply time trialing. He beat quality competition very convincingly. Does he beat Jakob when it counts, no certainly no guarantee, but this notion that Jakob is going to “destroy” him, no, you’ve not been paying attention.

Agree with this. I still need to see Nuguse in a Jakob-style race, outdoors, with that strong third lap. Maybe he hangs on and can still unleash his kick, maybe he can't. It's a big unknown until we get to the outdoor season. We'll have a better idea of where Jakob is this weekend. He should dominate Euro Indoors but there's decent competition from Gourley. None of the top Spanish guys will be there though.

Katir was at one week of a historic 3000m and as I seen in the race Neguse exploited Katir going too early to out-kick him. We see a lot of scenarios like this in the mile.
If you care of what say some Moroccan I have gotten you this translated:
1) Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you... A rising talent to control this distance... Greetings
2) Great runner and promising future
3) He looks a little like Saeed Aouita in the way he runs, and he certainly has a future, God willing
4) It has the specifications of the 1500.
5) An Ethiopian of origin? .. expected anything, but it is impossible for Katir to break El Guerrouj's record .. neither him nor Jacob, but this American expected anything from him..

A 3:47 with at 25.9 close is still a 3:47 with a 25.9 close wherever you run it.
What did Matt C say nearly immediately after 2012 Olympics, 1500m final? Matt C said: Africans and others internationally are kicking all out with 400m to go. I (Matt C) cannot wait for the final 200m. [Paraphrased.]

Thank you! I agree with all those sentiments. No guarantees, but if you watched the races this winter, especially Millrose, it’s obvious that Nuguse is a big talent, just blooming now after a short time with a pro training group, altitude training and time away from the rigors of his studies. True, there was a lot of hype for Hocker in the summer of 2021, but Nuguse seems to already be at another level and the best US prospect in the 1500 since Centro.
Well I would just say that Yared ran 3:47.38 on the same track that Johnny Gregorek has run 3:49.98. Is Yared the best miler in the world right now? Yared is in the conversation but when the best Kenyans aren’t even racing at 1500m yet I would say that this is not an important question to answer. Check back in 3-4 months and the question might be worth pondering.

Well I'll drop my updated rankings in then:
1. Yared Nuguse (LW: 1) 2. Jakob Ingebridsten (LW: 2) 3. Mohamed Katir (LW: 2 — drops a spot as we saw while in tiptop 3K shape, he didn't have a very explosive finish despite pacing better than Nuguse in the race) 4. Neil Gourley (LW: 5 — deservedly jumps Kerr after dismantling him in the Birmingham field for another strong performance) 5. Oliver Hoare (LW: 6 — looked strong in Australia even taking on a lot of wind and doing a lot of the work) 6. Josh Kerr (LW: 4 - Not going to overreact to one race, but he drops a couple spots in not looking sharp in the closing stages) 7. Amos Bartlesmeyer (LW-7) 8. Anass Essayi (LW - 8) 9. Adel Mechaal (LW - unranked, it's not pretty but he's grinding out solid finishes) 10. Andrew Coscoran (LW - unranked, big breakthrough race and NR)
Next 5 in (no order): Sam Prakel, Sam Tanner, Cooper Teare, Josh Thompson, Geordie Beamish Dropped Out of Top 10: Cooper Teare, Sam Tanner
Upcoming: Jakob vs. Gourley vs. Bartelsmeyer at European Indoors. Essayi vs. Washington guys and more at NCAAs.

Just erroneous in that Yared's was run at the Armory and Gregorek's was run at BU. Gregorek ran 3:51.82 in literally the same race at Millrose. This isn't hard to know where races from a couple weeks ago were run.

OK I stand corrected. But nonetheless Gregorek ran 3:49i without the benefit of the super spikes which ostensibly propelled Yared. Galen ran 3:50.92i without the super spikes. Galen was not never a great miler. The indoor times, especially with super spikes, are to be taken with a grain of salt now. This is like recess or play time for professional runners. Nothing important is happening other than training. The adults know this. So Yared’s improvement is noteworthy but his standing among the big boys is uncertain.
