She needs to go pro now. There will never be a time that her stock will be this high. Runners get injured. Runners get burned out. Runners plateau. Her 3000 performance is by far the best thing she has done. I think she could get a 5 year deal worth $200K per year right now. It is easy to finish school while running professionally. Be smart. It didn't work out well for King Ches.

But that $200k gets chopped up very fast.
Give a chunk to the IRS
15% to agent
She would now have to pay for housing (free as part of her scholarship)
She would need to pay for coaching
She would have to pay for any PT/massage (surely paid for by NC State now)

She already has a NIL deal with Adidas and a full scholarship. She would be dumb to go now.

If she’s still a full-time student, wouldn’t she be training like a college runner?

Excellent point. 40% of $200k right away to the criminal Gov via the unlawful communist income tax, and you are immediately down to $120k. Then, let's take 15% of that to the agent, and now you're down to $102k. Then, that $102k has to pay for coaching, housing, travel expenses, meals, use of medical and training facilities. And how much of that is left over to save after paying for all of that? Maybe $10-20k?
Who knows how much Tuohy is getting from that NIL deal with Adidas, but coupling that with all of the coaching/housing/meal expenses covered by NC State, it is probably about a wash financially for her to stay in college.
Then, there is the fact that there are other factors that are more important to an athlete than just money and the financial aspect -- such as which situation makes her most happy. In many interviews, she has said that she never considered going pro straight out of high school, because she wanted to experience the team aspect of college, and especially college cross country. She loves being a part of a team. You don't get that in the pros.
I bet if you could poll pro runners who ran in the NCAA and recently graducated, and asked them what they would like to be doing, and bet that most of them would say they wish they could still be in college.
I bet if Tuohy were to leave college early, she would regret it, and wish she had stayed in college for as long as she can.

She is already a pro via nil w/ adidas. She's over delivering value now, so her agent could ask for a bump or extension in contract years etc.
The options on where she lives and trains center now largely around:
if it ain't broke, don't fix it
v
benefit of focused training and altitude.
She has a good team around her, they will get it right.
What? No. She wouldn't pay for a coach or anything else. She would be a high level pro. Her NIL deal is taxable also. I really despise when people bring taxes into the mix when talking about salaries. She could get a career ending injury tomorrow. She cold plateau. But she could get a huge deal right now.
Don't break what isn't broken? Is that the motto you use in your job? So a college grad who starts at $60K should never apply for promotion? I guess not. Why take on a bit more responsibility when others in the office are earning $100k? Tuohy is beating pros while she could be earning significantly more than she does today.

She’s thriving now and having a great time, BUT she could do better as an athlete and in terms of $. Does she really need to win more NCAA titles and set more collegiate records? No, rip up her NIL deal, sign with On, move to Boulder and train with Monson and Ritz at altitude. She’ll make huge $ and be on the world’s team THIS year. Sure, she can wait through the fall and win NCAA xc again and then move on in time for Paris, but I think she should strike while the iron is hot. Honestly, the NCAA is child’s play for her now.
please don't, she is such a good person and doesn't need to be corrupted by money. media and corporations yet, it'll happen soon and I hope she handles it well... but not yet please. we need more people like her. She is so pure and humble right now, i hope it lasts

What does turning pro have to do with being gracious and humble? She’s a good person, that’s not going to change regardless.
All she needs to do is what is right for her and what makes her happy. She is thriving right now and there is no reason to change anything. She will likely have her degree by the end of the current school year, and will likely come back for next years' cross country season at least. She will not want to walk away from a third team title. Next year she will be 21 and she has plenty of time to make a decision. Who can say what the future holds for anyone?
You have no idea what her NIL deal is or whether it's better or worse that what OAC might offer her for a different kind of contract. There are no limits on the size of NIL deals and Adidas has a record of doling out generous contacts to promising young stars.

I think you probably know that contracts, money, contractural obligations from corporations and additional media demands affect people. I also think you get the point I'm trying to make. Admittedly perhaps it's selfish for me to want to see her keep doing what she is doing now. However I think what she is doing now and where she is now as a person and athlete is very special and would hate to see it end right now. I have no doubt she'll keep being an awesome person and wouldn't want to see negative affects for her. No doubt she'll go pro and I'm sure she'll handle it well. Watch the interview from last night where she is asked about the NIL agressively and persistently. She clearly doesn't want to talk about that, doesn't want her running to be about that right now and I think that's admirable.

What’s clear is that she’s super happy and that means more than anything. Clearly, she’s not going anywhere until after next xc season. However, you are correct. “Who can say what the future holds for anyone?” She has already experienced the pleasures of NCAA team titles, individual titles and records. She could be paid life changing money and level up her athletic abilities if she were to turn pro and train as a pro right now. This all my be true a year from now, but maybe not. If she were an NCAA basketball player, she’d be in the NBA tomorrow. I get that she still has the ability to compete against pros now, while college basketball players do not, but it’s not a level playing field for her. She’s at a huge structural disadvantage to Monson and others while at NC State.
I think part of it comes down to..... is it all about the money or not? or are there other more important things than securing the biggest pot of money.
i've been there, i've taken the big lump sum signing bonus tied to a 3 year contract where i had to pay back the unamortized amount of the signing bonus if i didn't perform. I hated every minute of it, felt like a slave and would't do it again. my peace of mind and autonomy are worth more than money and i make about 35% of what i did then but am much happier. so no doubt my personal experience has biased my viewpoint here. but my points come from a sincere place.

Well, in light of her recent accomplishments, I hope she’s renegotiating her deal and investigating her options. Outside of Sydney and maybe Mu, she’s likely the most coveted USA female T&F star. Her value to a relative upstart company like On would be extraordinary. Adidas is drowning in Ye-related debt.

People don't seem to get nil? It can be for exactly the same amount as a pro contract.
(Nice work kt! We've decided to increase your annual nil to $400k. Please sign these attached copies of the contract addendum, and send them to Ray. Good luck w/that dmr.)
Adidas got way more benefit at Millrose from Touhy the collegian than had she been pro.
Also Adidas will have stipulated 'right of first refusal', or 'right to match another offer' when Tuohy chooses to leave college.
