Is that the same Barega that Grant Fisher has beaten?
I believe if it wasn’t for rampant doping in Kenya and lack of testing in Ethiopia and Uganda there would be several non East African runners competitive for medals.
That was at a xc race. It's even wrong for xc, but maybe he was only referring to xc--where Jakob has not been a world medal threat yet but where Kiplimo and Cheptegei are certainly medal threats.
There's rampant doping here in the United States as well. The major difference is that most of our best talent doesn't go into distance running. If you believe many more are doping in Africa, why would you assume Fisher is clean? Fisher didn't grow up at altitude like those in Kenya. You see some people get busted in Kenya and you assume they are all dirty. Why wouldn't you hold the same opinion towards your own country?
When you look at the wikipedia page for doping cases in track/field, United States has BY FAR the most cases of any country. It's not even close.
"Some people". You mean over 30 Kenyans in the last year? The same country listed as a Category A doping nation. The one where 40% of the entire 2017 World Championship team has been suspended for doping violations (so far). Tired of the excuses for these cheaters, doping is systemic in Kenya and needs to be rooted out.

Oh I'm well aware. Just don't pretend like the Americans are all clean.

Give me a break. AIU tests Americans plenty and there isn't a fraction of the doping positives these days. Im sure there are dopers, but equating a country the AIU has deemed as the highest risk for doping, with one that is not is ridiculous.

Literally 1 distance runner. Hassan Mead who was retired. Meanwhile, every other week a new Kenyan is popped.
Admittedly, the following quote comes from a Kenyan paper.
The Nation wrote:
Barega said he has to work extra hard to counter Kenyan opponents. “I believe without Kenyan athletes, there is no competition. I really respect my rivals like Nicholas Kimeli, Jacob Krop and Daniel Simiu," said Barega, who started the season on a high note after winning the 10.8km title at the 79th Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza — a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting in Elgoibar, Spain on Sunday.
Barega is a pretty humble, soft-spoken guy and his English is decent but not at that high level. I doubt he was trying to disrespect Grant or the Ugandans. It is pretty much a fact that on the indoor season as well as 5,000m DL circuit last year before Worlds the Kenyans and his fellow Ethiopians were his major competition week to week. It’s not too surprising the 3 athletes he named. I’d suspect whether it’s Grant or Mburu of Kenya he doesn’t necessarily know a whole lot about them due to their not running many of the same races.
