Bobby Kersee told Track & Field news that while he can't yet confirm, he thinks Sydney McLaughlin-LeVrone and Athing Mu are a "strong possibility" to compete in the "Big Meet" in L.A. Who else might we expect to see?
We expect USATF to release the full line up of events "relatively" soon, including jumps and throws. We expect some depth in the jumping, especially, as Drake is well suited for that with many jumping areas-- but stay tuned.
I hope Bobee is successful. There's a boatload of Olympic T&F medal winners living and training in the vicinity of Drake. We haven't had a money making T&F or Roads since 1996 in Atlanta at the Summer Olympics. Well, no flames please, I know Long Beach Relays makes money due to the volume of entries and collected entry fees. Mt Sac and Triton do too. But that's not the same as having 1,000,000 T&F fans in the seats and 500,000 T&F fans peeking from outside the L.A. Coliseum at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
drake must be 100 years old. the va westwood leased land years ago to ucla for the baseball field etc, and the va is today being sued by veterans who want the land taken back and made into homeless concentration camps. ucla objects to fox sports idea for a $6 BILLON multisport humanless-robotic reconfigurable stadium in inglewood unless there's a campus-to-stadium metro line installed from westwood to inglewood concurrently not 20 years from now.
FWIW, wikipedia says Drake seats 11,000+, was built in 1969, and underwent a big refreshing project in 2014.
I've been before. It's got some classic architectural lines, old school Olympics vibes, lots of tributes, and perhaps some friendly ghosts, like Rafer Johnson.
Forget Fox Sports. It would take 30 years to carve out a metro to line Inglewood from Westwood. Each time they dig the ground up they have to look for an archaeological find. It they hit the jackpot then they have to call in scientists from Mexico, China, Scandinavia, Siberia, South America, Mongolia, etc. to identify if it's theres. That's a three year minimum delay over and over again.
Max is trying to make T&F a successful business outside of the Olys. Others have tried and failed. Over and over again. $B wasted in the US. Good luck.
You'd think at the very least LA-based pros. That means the two you mentioned as well as Michael Norman, Rai Benjamin, Dalilah Muhammad, and some prominent ones I'm probably forgetting. If you get the Flagstaff, Colorado (Alison Dos Santos?) and Oregon-based pros that's a lot of distance/mid-distance talent. There is certainly enough talent on the West Coast alone let alone if you get surrounding states, and possibly Texas too.
Don't count on it. None of these USATF, DL, WC, WXC, WIC Charity Meetings pay enough for kids to feel compelled to run for that low amount money. If it did there is definitely enough kids permanently residing in L.A. metro with Olympic Medals who could use a good pay day.

Drake is a great venue. Problem is lack of local interest and unpredictable weather. They made a big push to be the “Hayward of the Midwest” in the 2010’s but it fell flat. Severely struggled to fill the stadium for USATF Champs the few times they hosted.

Zero of the podunk college town meets or venues have amounted to anything short of a public nuisance. They wasted untold amounts of tax payers monies. I blame "Build It and They Will Come" line from the Kevin Costner movie Field of Dreams.
