Alcohol consumption 2022. I logged everything I drank for 1 year. Here are the results.

Interesting. I think I had a bottle of wine with wife (2 glasses) 300 out of 365 days last year. We’re in the same boat. Both mid-40s she ran a 2:50 marathon and I’m a 4:40 miler on the track race US Champ stuff and I wonder if I’d be faster but not sure if I want to go back to that commitment (was a 14:00 guy college never stopped training).

Bank account would appreciate less wine but health is top notch. My main fear to stop drinking is getting injured. I’ve been injury free all of 2020-2022 and would get more soft tissue injuries when not having wine with dinner (started more after a monthlong trip to Europe with some fast dudes and how much they didn’t care about deking have a good time.)

Interesting. I like track random facts about my life as well. I am not OCD about anything (except running every day) but I do track random stuff just for the fun of it. Books, food, etc.

Your drinking did seem like a lot though, 1.4 drinks per day on average? Is that hard on your liver?

I do drink, but only like 75-100 beers (IPAs) a year. 1.5-2 per week, I would guess. I will track it this year out of curiosity.

get on the test @ 70mg/wk and not only will you be able to handle the alcohol easier, but you'll also have more motivation which means easier to drink less, plus more vitality so you run faster.

My wife and I cook a lot and many meals are incomplete without wine. I sip white slowly as I did last night when we had spaghetti and shrimp, but when we use tomato sauce with the pasta, I tend to drink red faster. I could easily take that total of 513 for the year and bring it down to 450, but motivation is lacking.

Here's mine since August, so about 4 months. I drank 12 times over that period.

Beer cans: 40. Mainly Natty light with a few others.
Games: 15 total. Mainly pong with a little flip/stack cup
Shots: 10, mainly vodka
Seltzer/other (think white claw): 5
Jungle juice: 10 cups

I stopped drinking alcohol 23 years ago! The last time I drank I was on vacation and "had one too many" and acted like a fool. When my friend came back from dinner I acted like I was a mad housewife angry at a husband who arrived home late. They I started to yell at nature near the cabin. I was supposed to go hiking the next day. Instead I woke up at 1 pm the next day with a massive headache and nausea. I was so embarrassed. My life became wonderful in the years since. I do not miss alcohol at all! Running has been the cornerstone of my life for years now. I urge everyone to have honor and never drink alcohol!

We know with 100% certainty that alcohol is toxic to your liver in any amount. Why someone would do that to their innocent organ is a mystery. Schedule I drugs, like heroin and meth, are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Well guess what, alcohol is one of the worst and should be added to the list! You shorten your life with every drink, whether it's by a second, a minute, or in serious instances, immediately and irreparably.

Impressive that you could keep those stats while inebriated 60% of the time.

I almost sense that Letsrun has so many recovering addicts with unhealthy relationships, or none at all, with alcohol. Drinking is not for everyone especially lower income. However there are a lot of under $100k households on LR. The more educated and wealthy you get in life the more you will enjoy something like a great wine with dinner.

You guys are teetotalers compared to me. I average 3+ beers a night. So, well over 1,000 for the year. I don't notice any difference between having 1 beer or 5 the following morning. I feel fine either way. I don't drink wine or liquor because I don't like them and I hate getting drunk, so I don't binge drink. My parents and grandparents all drank like fish. My parents are in their 80s and still travel around the world, and 3 out of my 4 grandparents lived into their 90s. My father's father died just a few weeks shy his 100th birthday.

I turn 60 next month and ran a 23:19 just a few months ago. I don't think cutting out the beer would make any difference there.

More likely than not, if you continue drinking the way you drink at your age, you will have bad labs. If you're lucky, slightly elevated fatty liver. You're playing Russian Roulette with cancer drinking as much as you drink at your age.
