Also hopeful he'll be back on the boards this winter but, based on his IG, I haven't seen much running from him recently. That's not to say he couldn't be hopping in some workouts with Hobbs, Mason, and Beadlescomb but I'm not sure if that's his aim now.
I highly doubt it. It seems he has pretty much retired and 21 years vs 20 doesn't really sound much better. 25 years would be the next big milestone and thats likely out of the question.
If he was going to go for it, it would probably make sense to get fit in fall 2023. Then he could race in December 2023 and extend it to 21 years, and then he could race again in January 2024 to extend it to 22 years. It's a bit gimmicky, but fun nonetheless.
This was my thought as well. Additional perk of this approach is that even if he fails in December, he'd still be chasing the "over 40" sub-4, which could be a motivator.
I asked Nick a few months back if he was planning on doing any races this year and he said it was a firm no. He did say he was helping pace some occasional workouts for some of the guy and girl squads in Michigan though just for a bit of fun. I think after having run at 5 Olympics and hit the 20 years of sub 4s, plus his third kid having been born this year he has all but unofficially retired. You never know though, he might decide to lace up again and give it another crack!
I believe a lot of the years he broke 4 he 'only' did it once or twice, and then some years he would do it like 4-5 times. But I don't think he was averaging 5 times per year, so I don't think he hit 100. If you add in 1500 meter outdoor times, he would hit the equivalent, but not the full mile.
Big Willis fan, love the guy, hoping to see it, but not looking likely. He is a couple years younger than Kipchoge though so he could do it if he tried hard.

Just tell him he needs to officially retire before he starts his bulking regiment of sketchy vending machine protein shakes.
