It seems like both coaches have had pretty successful first years for the most part, and both programs did better than expected.
It seems like at UCLA Brosnan has created a really strong running culture. Sean doesn't want to hear excuses. He is making them put in real work and make sacrifices to prioritize running. This program is going in a completely different direction and everyone is on the same page moving forward, even the guys who don't have a prayer at making regionals or nationals. Furthermore, Jai Dawson is THAT GUY, he's exactly what I'm talking about. Who knows when the last time UCLA qualified in an individual distance event was, and if it’s even happened in the last 20 years, it’s been very rare, but I think Sean Brosnan will send multiple athletes to nationals in the coming years.
Jerry Schumacher does of course have the pedigree of coaching multiple Olympians, but he has shown that this does translate to college runners as well. This is a deep team filled with HOMEGROWN Oregon talent. He took this team to 16th at nationals despite starting the season unranked. He's bringing Oregon back to national relevance with his jerry miles and killer workouts. Outside of a couple of top runners this is a very young team that can only go up from here. Not to mention the top tier recruiting class he has brought in. Oregon is a team to watch out for in the years to come.
So LetsRun users, what do you think? I think the answer is clear, but we'll see if any of you have the nerve to get on my bad side and disagree.
